Tics & anxiety questions | ADHD Information

Tics are getting worse with 5 year old son.  Also anxious and more fearful lately.  He is seeing psych this month.  I can't understand why is is feeling so tense and anxious- things are pretty nice for him at home and school- as far as I can tell.

Any of your kids have this anxiety that seems to pop up for no reason?  Looking for support.

is he on stimulants? We did see this in the past with my daughter. Stimulants would increase anxiety and tics, even if I didnt feel there was any "reason" for anxiety to be up.No- never been medicated- not DX (as yet anyway) with ADHD- but likely will be at some point.  He has been DX with PDD-NOS by one psychologist.  We are kind of in limbo right now with a DX.  hmmmmmmm, may want to treat the anxiety anyway. Life shouldn't be so hard when you're 5. My oldest was always anxious, she does have ADHD, plus a few other LD's. My youngest is now in K and 6 and I can see the difference now so clearly. With my oldest I was always justifying she gets tired easy, it's all an adjustment, it's this it's that. Well my younger daughter is making all those adjustments so much easier. It's coming to the end of the school year, these kids are pretty brunt out................

I will talk about that with the psych.  What are some ways they treat little kids for anxety?  Based on the fact that he has not developed typically (delayed in most areas and some ASD red-flag stuff) and now the fact that he has tics - it is making me think that he needs a neurological evaluation before we jump right into an anxiety treatment. Does that sound reasonable?

PS- DianeV- thanks, you are always there for all of us.  I can't tell you how great it is to have such an active, caring, and sensible contributor on this board.  I think you have helped every one of us at some time or another.

Yup sounds reasonable to me.  Meds of course come to mind for treatment, but therpay should help too. He's only 5 that should be taken into consideration. We didnt reat my daughters anxiety until she was about 9. I think if he's ASD, anxiety comes with the territory. If/when you do get to solid diangosis and if you opt for meds, that may help with everything.

Thank you for the compliment. My family has had QUITE the road and I learn new things here every day from all of you guys. I wish I had this at the beginning of our journey.
