daytrana | ADHD Information
Has anyone had any bad sideaffects with the daytrana patch? My son was taking strattera but has refused to keep taking it and the patch seems like an easy solution but im scard to death of it,do to the fact that the drug is like giving him narcotics and what if he gets hooked on it hes only 8 but i just dont know anymore. We have to do something he has been kicked out 5 times and is way behind in his class. PLEASE GIVE ME ANY ADVICE.thanks
He isn't going to get hooked, it is NOT a narcotic, and the Daytrana Patch works well, the same med as Ritalin. If his Psych prescribed it, then use it.
we used Daytrana fairly successfully. We saw some minor side effects the first week, headache, stomachache, but both passed quickly. The only thing we did not like was the 2 hour time it took to get going. We had to put it on while dd was sleeping.
Daytrana is a prescription medication. As with any prescription (or over the counter) medication it should be taken as directed by a physician. No one is becoming hooked on 20mg of Daytrana patch. I think you should keep reading, educate yourself as much as you can and talk it over with the doctor. You should be as infomred as possible when making these kinds of decisions.
Why won't he take the strattera? Does he refused to be medicated or
does he not like swallowing a pill? If he doesn't want medication, then he
can easily remove the patch.
You really should talk to your son's doctor about this - what kind of
doctor is prescribing the meds?
Read these boards. Those of us who have chosen to medicate our
children do so in their best interest - to level the playing field a little for
them. It is by no means an easy fix (even with meds, here we are, but
they can help a lot) and not something you should feel guilty about.
My son uses Daytrana and we've had good success with it. We've had much success w/Daytrana. Our son experienced appetite suppression in the beginning but after about a month he started eating more again. He's a little pickier now and we coax (bribe) him to eat but he's more willing. Daytrana has worked wonders with him and his ability to focus and calm down. We have had a huge change in out household once we figured out the timing of his meds. As Diane stated in an earlier post, Daytrana takes a couple hours to start working. Our son takes a short acting Methylin when eating breakfast, to help him get thru the morning hours and his patch goes on about 9:30 at school, so by the time his Methylin quits working, his patch has started working. By timing his meds this way, it has carried us thru until bedtime, which helps our evenings tremendously. thanks for the advise! you guys are wonderful. I do tend to go a little overboard on my thoughts. It's nice to know we are all in this together
