Sleeping/exercise | ADHD Information

Hi All,   My 12yo daughter has always had problems falling asleep and still does.  She's on Concerta 18mg.   She is very active, playing on a year round soccer team with near daily practices and has other team sports at least daily.   We've found that if she has a day without at least 1.5 hours of vigorous exercise, or if she's slept late that morning (like past 8:30) it's impossible for her to fall asleep before midnight and even later that night.   Somedays it's just impossible to wear her out now that she's 12 and wants to sit at the computer and IM her friends, talk on the phone, watch tv,  etc...instead of being easily convinced to go for a run with me or play basketball on rainy days; like she used to.   Also, she still wets the bed about once/week.    When she was very young 0-8, she frequently had night terrors, but thankfully those have totally disappeared.   Anyway......does anyone have any advice for helping her fall asleep  (or the bedwetting)  ??   We've tried melatonin, but that didn't have any effect.    Has anyone ever heard of giving Ambien to children?   Many thanks!!   I would be careful with prescriptions or any sleep aid for they can be addicting that is my fear.  I was told by our pediatrician we can give my child a Benedryl when needed and it does work.  Talk to your Pediatrician.

Think about a treadmill. She can watch TV and walk or even run.  My husband got me one when I got into a walking kick. He didn't like me walking outside after dark. (No one would have bothered because of the dogs.) You could challenge her walk across America. Keep a note book and keep track of your distances.  chart her progress on a map. I have walked across Florida, but I haven't made it to California, yet! I also lost 40+ ponds doing it.

Thanks Reruho,  Thats a GREAT idea!   She might go for it, she does like to run, and she is coordinated enough to text and walk at the same time   !

I like the idea of making it into a race or a game when I try to excercise and get my daughter to join me she gets bored after 10 minutes and stops.

I use my DVR to record my favorite show and movies. I watch movies while walking, the time just flies while I am on there.

I find that the walking has a relaxing effect on me.
