Thanks for your replies. It's just so good to know that we're not the only one's.
thanks again.
Adderall also made my son weepy and angry, although it does help some people. I'm wondering if the dosage is wrong ( in the "too little" direction). 5mgs is such a small dosage, it almost sounds like it would just be an irritant rather than being effective.
BPQW39547.3797916667I will ask the doctor about the dosage. So far this week is better. Although I feel like I"m in a constant "Waiting for the other shoe to fall" state of distress.Do you believe the meds could be causing any of these behaviors?
My son couldn't handle adderall xr and did what you are describing once he took the med.
He became aggitatated, angry, in kids faces in 1st grade, etc.
We moved him to concerta and have NEVER seen those types of behaviors since!
Just wondering
Our 6 year old son has been diagnosed with ADHD. His is on Adderal XR 5 mgs/ daily.
In the past few months he has increasing difficulty transitioning from one class to another and shuts down (becomes nonverbal, hides his face, refuses to go into a classroom). He then becomes angry, hitting, kicking and biting when the teachers prevent him from running away. He had to be physically restrained last week and was banging his head on a locker to the point it left a mark. We never had issues like this when he was a baby or toddler. He always had the hyperactivity and inattention, but was never this difficult. We had previously tried Focalin XR which appeared to make him more agitated. We see a child psychiatrist. I'm tired and frustrated and don't kow what to do, I feel like the worst mother in the world. 99.9% of the time he is a happy, laid back kid. The school is wonderful. They've been just as supported of me and my son. Does anyone have any similar experiences or guidance to offer?
Stimulant meds can cause or increase anxiety in some kids. It may be time to try another med. Unfortunately it can take quite some time to find the right one for the individual needs of your son. Maybe a non stim should be tried. Your doc probably has stratagies for this, if he/she deals with lots of med management.
My youngest has difficulty with transitions and when stressed she would get aggressive and try to hurt herself (scratching her arms). In her case the anxiety was due to school failure (prior to treatment), then later due to teasing at school. She is currently happy and doing well the majority of the time (I would be worried if she were perfect ).
