Morning Rebound? | ADHD Information

I'm new to this forum so I don't know if this topic has been discussed at length, but my pediatrician says he's never heard of it, so I'm curious to know if anyone else has had any experience with what I am calling "morning rebound."

My daughter started medication for ADHD two years ago.  She was on Concerta, 72 mg for about a year before we switched to Vyvanse last August.  She has never experienced the classic PM rebound effects I read about on this forum.  However, in the mornings, upon awakening, she is a different child than before she went on medication.  After starting Concerta, upon awakening every morning, she was obnoxiously goofy and out of control.  Even her motor skills were affected--she was jerky, clumsy, etc...  It was like the pendulum swung the other way after the medication wore off--her ADHD behaviors were never that extreme prior to medication.  Since we have switched from Concerta to Vyvanse, we don't see the same extreme behaviors in the morning, but on some days, her behavior is so obnoxious that she is really difficult to be around before the meds kick in.  Ironically, I see much more of her fun, goofy personality on Vyvanse than Concerta.  Her sense of humor seemed to disappear with Concerta.

Has anyone else experience this bizarre morning behavior?  My pediatrican (an ADHD specialist) insists it's not the medication, but what else would explain it?

Thanks,
Tracy
We used to have very tough mornings. The only way to help it was to etiher give her a morning dose of short acting med the minute she woke up, then save her longer acting med until she was walking out the door to school. OR to wake her up an hour early to take her med so when she got up for the day it was already in her system. This did help. Some people use Guanfacine to help with the evening rebound and as this build in your system it helps with mornings also. We dont have that now as we use Strattera and it has 24 hour coverage.

My son is like that in the morning - goofy, loud, antagonizes his brother, ect - and on the weekends if he forgets his meds, he is very hyper, and eats everything in site! I want to stick to one medication, and give him the lowest dose possible, so I do what I can to deal with him until the medication kicks in.  He was on 72mg of Concerta and I noticed him being more somber and quiet, I didn't like that, 36mg seems just right to take the edge off and help him in school.
