Need help for summer | ADHD Information

I haven't been here for a while because meds have been working BUT now
my son really wants to go to overnight camp and I don't know if we can
pull it off.

Currently, he takes: Strattera 40mg. every morning
zoloft 6.25 mg. every morning (weaning him off -
                                                  going OK)
                                       Daytrana 10 mg. patch on school days, sometimes        &nb sp;         &nb sp;         &nb sp;
weekends.

Even with such a low dose if stimulant, he still doesn't eat lunch at school
most days.   I've tried a half patch on weekend days and it still affects his
appetite!

I can't send him away if he isn't going to eat! Unfortunately, the strattera
alone doesn't help with impulsivity and hyperactivity enough. But it
helped us lower his effective stimulant dose considerably.

Additionally, if he goes away with the patch, he can't go to the nurse until
after breakfast and it takes so long to work!

Is there another low dose stimulant that people have found better for
appetite? Or maybe I should ask about tenex? Does it increase appetite?
Will it work for my whirling dervish in the mornings? Anyone use it with
strattera?

Thanks as always. It's SO great to know there is so much support out
there!

Thanks for your responses.

Mom o' 4: How funny!

Camp is 3 1/2 weeks, so he has to eat!

He can take an oral medication, but what do you recommend?

Also, he is quite immature and extra bouncy in the mornings, so I'm
worried that he'll start to annoy the other kids with time. I'm starting to
think that Tenex may do the trick because he won't need focus help, just
behavioral. I've read all the threads but no one talks about it with
strattera.

We can't do just strattera - it's very weird, because I know it's working
but not noticeably on it's own. We were able to take him from 40mg. of
Ritalin LA daily last year down to only 10mg. patch this year, so it's doing
something. But it just doesn't help with impulse control, which he has to
have at camp.

Thanks again!

could he do low dose RLA w/Strattera just for camp?

I wouldnt worry too much, like mom o'4 says, I alos worried excessively about sleepover camp and dd was FINE. Yup greasy hair and clothes....well...you dont even want to know, she probably ate penaut butter sandwiches only all week, but she survived and had a BLAST! Goes every year. Makes more friends at camp than she has in all her school years combined. They arent life long buddies, but who cares they enjoy themselves that one week. It's her best two weeks of the year her 2 weeks sleeping at overnight camp.

I cut my son's dose in half in the summer and sent him to camp for a week, he had a great time, and came back with a little weight gain! - have you considered not giving him the patch?

Does he do ok on any oral meds? Could you put him on an oral med with the Strattera for the summer? Oh! I wanted to write that I was SO worried about my son not picking up after himself, or brushing his teeth, heck, I was worried he wouldn't change his clothes the whole week! But, I let it go~only to find out that my fears mostly came true! But, it was also true for all of the 12 year old boys in the cabin, and his 19 year old (male) counselor wasn't any better! So I wouldn't worry too much!
