If he seems strong willed...you might want to get the book Strong Willed Child. It is very good. I also think from experience that 6 years old are at a tender age. I have a 6 year old and I work with 100's of 6 years old every year as an educator. Emotions run wide at this age. They still are "momma" centered but want to have their independence and be grown up all at the same time.
My son has his moments but overall nothing major at this time. He is strong willed too. I however, think I am to a degree. I especially think so after reading the book I mentioned above. This book gives wonderful suggestions all the way around.
