all in all it was a great visit. she asked him a series of questions as well as checked his strength and reflexes etc. she said she thinks that some of his issues are related to from when his cousin passed away suddenly last year. she doesn't think he is to far behind other 6 yr olds in a sense. she said that she doesnt think its related to the head injury but to just keep an eye on things and if we are still concerned or notice things to bring him back and she will do an mri, but for now she felt it would just be an unnecessary test that he would have to be sedated for. and the only way she would feel comfortable to do it is we said that it would help us sleep tonight. well it wouldn't help me sleep better, for the simple fact, my son has been through heck and back and the thought of having him sedated one more time just scares me. he has already been sedated for 2 different surgeries and it was difficult getting his system clean from the last one. i really don't wanna do that if i don't have to.
she did tell me that i should not worry about kindergarten and should allow him to go onto first grade. she said if he has a learning disability that it will show between 1st and 2nd grade and that insurance doesn't pay for that, so if i see him still struggling in 1st grade insist that the school test them. she said be prepared because it will be a battle, because schools do not want ot have to pay for that. so she said they will fight you on it, and i do mean it wll be a battle, but she said you have a right to it. she said as for right now, i don't think its necessary to have him tested, unless they are "willing" to do it.
she said but you definitely need to get him an IEP. So now i have to figure out everything about that and what I need to know about it etc.
Anyone agree? Disagree? Comments?
Good luck.
meet with the neurologist for Trent.
I'm sitting here trying to make a list of all of my concerns and questions. Being that she is 2 hours away, I don't want to forget anything.
