Let my guard down | ADHD Information

i like the youre approach  , i think your  spot on.

We picked up two pair, one for home and one for school. It has been less than 6 months, and he has lost the at home pair.

We buy the insurance, it only cost a few dollars and it has come in handy each time.

My son is very destructive too. He has a couch in his room that is in shreds. I refuse to replace it. He has to cover it up with a blanket.

I have to watch any little tiny hole in his pants, he will pick at it until it is huge and pants are unwearable. We went through a cutting -phase.

I'm not certain how much the insurance covers on the pair we got  Since we do indeed have it, I plan to get check tommorrow.

If you bought the added insurance or warranty it should cover it all.  My son demolished several pair of glasses the first few months and thank god I had it.  Otherwise I wouldn't have been able to afford to replace them.

Not sure why, maybe I assumed with it being my birthday today, but I let my guard down with my son today.  And in less than an hour after they got back home (they went to get a last minute gift and egss) my son was in a temper trantrum mood.

So I did what our Behaviour doc and all my books said.  Give him a warning than start in with the time outs.  well he ended destroying a 0 pair of glasses (his).  I was livid, but o course being the mom, I sat in his bed and talked him "down".  We ended up getting in the car and driving a few cities over to a park that sits on the river.  We talked, he ran around and burned off his "extra" engery and than we came home.

I guess I'm just venting.  No real question.  Other than now what do I do about the glasses?  We can't afford to pay out for a new pair.  And the insurance won't cover a new pair till June, after school let's out.

no advice just wanted to commiserate. My daughter broke her glasses twice in a week's time this month!

Happy Birthday!

Thank you.  He's ruined a pair before (last year) but we were able to get new lenses for them.  And his eyesight wasn't as bad as it is now.  He can't see ar across the room to read things like on a chalk board at school.

He's never ruined the frames like this beore cause he knows he needs them.

For as bad as he was two hours ago, he is now sitting here in the family room playing on the PS2.  Boy I need a drink, a really really stiff one..... oh wait, I don't drink.  Oh well off to get another Diet Pepsi.

< =text/>_popupControl(); This is advice after-the-fact, but I always get the two year warranty on my son's glasses. That way, even if I grind them up in the disposal twice a month, they are covered. I feel for you and the glasses.  My son started wearing glasses last year.  The first few months the eye glass place was a weekly visit.  My insurance is only a ten dollar discount.  But I did get two pairs (2 for one) and bought the insurance.  Boy, was I glad I did.  If you can't afford the glasses, see if the teacher can sit him in front of the class if he can see better there.  Do you have Costco where you live?  We got my daughter a spare pair of glasses (which is actually likes better than the first pair we bought) for very reasonable prices.  We paid about vs. 0 at the eye doctor.    They have some frames in the price range and the lenses for kids were as well.  You could try Walmart or JC Pennys.  They might have cheaper ones as well.

I have a suggestion...if the lens are okay just replace the frames.....Thats what I

did twice....before getting a new pair....... seems she(my granddaughter) is

breaking her glasses every month.....we are also very hard on Glasses....we

get two pair a year...Also next time you should see about the flexible one that

you can twist all around...they are a little more expensive but worth it....

Mamaou, he had the flexon frames.  That is what we get him so they are more forgiving.  Only he managed to destroy the Frames just as well as if they were regular frames.  Those frames cost us about 5 of the 0 we paid out in September to get them.

I like that idea of having  your son work off  the cost of the glasses.

I may need to use that myself in the future.

Happy belated B-day.

Well my son got his glasses replaced for . (20% of the 5 or so dollars).

Just the other day we had talked to him about him earning a little money mowing our yard and doing general yard work.

So now he understand that he will still have to do the yard work, but instead of paying him, he will work off the cost of his glasses.  So every time he mows teh grass (which should be soon) he works off .  We are going to weed the flower beds and garden this weekend and I think that will earn him - (depends on how much he actualy does).  It was his idea to work it off.

I have found that the flexon frames are actually the worst for my son.  He has been wearing glasses since he was 18 months old.  We broke 5 pair the first year, as he was so young.  But since then he never broke one pair.

Until....this year.  I bought him Flexon frames thinking they would be a great idea.  Well he broke 2 pair.  I finally gave up and got him regular ones this last time again.  And guess what?  He hasn't broken them!  I won't be buying Flexon's ever again!

My son has a tendency of falling asleep with his glasses on and bending up the frames.  The Flexon on ones (this is his actually thrid pair of them) has saved the frames.I am glad to hear they worked for someone - cuz my son snapped two pair straight in half!  And he wasn't even playing with them!  Happened when he laid down on the couch - similar to your son falling asleep I guess.  But, if they help your son - I am glad to hear they work for someone.
