Rebounds?? | ADHD Information

Some meds have less rebound.  My son was switched to Concerta and it definatley has less rebound affect.  He had alot of rebound on Daytrana Patch.I think it is so different for each child but I think the clue is extreme behavior of any sorts. Overly anything, crying, frustration, silliness, anger, hatred, hyperness, I could go on and on. It is extreme and the solution is dose or med change. Don't live with this behavior because it will destroy your child and your family life. Most importantly your child. My son banged his head on the floor and said he wanted to die. My daughter (who is inattentive type with no hyperness) kicked me, hit me and screamed in my face. She had NEVER done this type of behavior before the meds. Now both are on Vyvanse with little problems. I am reluctant to claim sucess with any meds because (sadly) it could all change tomorrow and go "down the tubes" as the saying goes.

deepbreathe, one clue may be when she is acting this way. Is it all the time? rebound tends to occur late afternoon when the meds are "leaving their system". Example, from about 4:30-6:30 my daughtre would get extremely silly, but then it would pass, she'd be very off task, fidgety....etc., etc after that, but not that "out of control" ridiculous behavior. On other meds ,like Daytrana, symptoms just gradually reappreared as the evening went on, but we didnt get that "crash" for a couple of hours.

So is she belligerent and emotional all the time or just for a time when meds are wearing off?

My son's rebound comes out in the form of overemotional and angry.

You know I think my daughter (age 13) has had rebound symptoms and I thought she was just acting out! How do you deal with it? Does it require a dose change, or does it just go with the territory?

We are going in tomorrow to psychiatrist and I'd like to have some knowledge ahead of time.

How do we know if it's oppositional behavior vs a rebound?

She is so beligerent and yells,gets upset, so of course she gets things taken away and timed out,etc. How much should I just take?

Any advise from experienced parents appreciated...
