second opinion/evaluation? | ADHD Information

After talking with my husband, and my son's teacher, I've decided to ask the doctor to refer us for another evaluation.  Joe was diagnosed very young and I'm uneasy about that to begin with.  With my husband disagreeing with the diagnosis to start with, and Joe's teacher talking to me about seeing some symptoms which might be things such as sensory integration disorder.... I just think another evaluation is the best bet.  Has anyone else ever gotten a second opinion or second eval?  Was it a pain to get?  Any insurance issues?  Thanks for any input.

We got a second opinion, but it was fomra  different doctor. So the first time it was questioned ADHD, we asked for another opinion and went to a neurologist who said she was borderline, but probably no ADHD after he followed her a year. The first diagnosis ended up bineg right and  it took a  couple more evaluations to get there, but it was correct. I never regretted the second opinion or waiitng on meds with her though. FOR US it was the right decision.

Always go with your gut. This is your child you're advocating for, if you are undure by all means get confirmation of diagnosis.

Go with your feelings and get a second opinion.  The more information you have the better.

The first psychologist thought my son had Aspergers.  Well, second and subsequently third opinions have proved no Aspergers.
