success w/ vyvanse? | ADHD Information

We had success with Vyvanse for the first month and half..then my son turned into a child I didn't even know!  Very ODD when the meds wore off and first thing in the a.m.  We are now back on concerta and even though his tics are back slightly, he isn't moody and angry any more!  Good luck!

Has anyone had long term success with vyvanse? I've been reading the vyvanse posts and it seems that a lot of folks on here have had initial success with it but then have bad rebound behaviors show up after a couple of months being on the med. And how long do you feel it lasts in a day?

DD's pyschitrist would like for her to try it again b/c she is REALLY fidgety on the adderall now. SHe is biting her fingernails and piking her skin really bad. We did not love vyvanse the first time we tryed it but may give it another go. If not we are going to try adding tenex to the adderall.  I am leaning toward trying to add the tenex first but am trying to do a little research first.

Thanks!

I was on Adderall xr for a year when my dr switched me to vyvanse. Horrible. Hated the side effects, didn't help me much. But those who initially started their add tx on Vyvase seemed to like it. So maybe if you switch from one to the other, the effects mey be bad. If she started on Vyvase, perhaps the adderall will do to her what the vyvase had done to me. I have since switched back to the adderall and it's much better.

It seems like a lot of kids are having anger/mood issues when the vyvanse wears off. Sounds like really bad rebound to me. Did Ryan have any ODD/anger before vyvanse? DD is very sweet and compliant and I do not want to give her anything that would make her moody or angry in the p.m. One of the things we are looking for in a med switch or additonal med is help with the extreme silliness/hyperactivity/impulsiveness that comes when the adderall wears off (and is actually starting to show through now while on adderall too).

DD took vyvanse at the end of summer/fall. It worked okay at first but waned in its effectiveness after a few weeks. It also seemed to wear off WAY before 10 hours and the rebound was not great (no moodiness though) just wierd behaviors like strange noises. Psych thinks it might be worth trying again at higher dose. He says he is having great success with it which a lot of drs seem to be saying however it seems like a lot of what I read are people having bad afternoon/evenings with it.

Thanks for the info.

Ryan didnt have any ODD , no more than the average kid anyway. The rebound was really not that bad and still isnt that bad. One thing that really sets Ryan off is if he hasnt eaten or he is tired(not enough sleep) . Then any little thing will set him off. I try to make sure he eats AS soon as we get home from Afterschool care. Even if its just a quick snack before dinner. This helps ALOT. And he is always in bed at the same time every night. Actually i have the most issues with Ryan when he comes home from my exs house. NO RULES, NO BEDTIME and  then we need to deprogram him. He comes home tired, whiny and miserable..

I think this is by far the best meds we have used. We have used Adderal Adderall xr and provigil. ALl had some side effects, all had some rebound..but I def would put my vote in for Vyvanse...

If its not lasting 10 to 12 hrs might need a dosage increase.

We have been using Vyvanse since November. Ryan has done very well on it. The side effects are gone, except the rebound. He has sleeping issues and appetite issues and some anger/ ODD. He still doesnt eat much in the afternoon but that is with any of the stimulants. He sleeps fine. His rebound is manegable as long as we keep things pretty calm and I try to give him some caffeine or protein to help with it. As for the anger/ODD , it comes and goes at times but nothing terrible and im sure some of it is just being 10 going on 11.

His focus is great and his grades in school have gone up. The teachers have noticed great strides. His hyperness is under control as well as his impulse. I give it to him at 7am and it wears off about 7-8 pm.

He is on vyvanse 30mg. So for now, it is working for us..but as with all these ADHD meds..who knows how long. I will just be happy for each day it works.
