Well, I just got in from our psychiatrist visit. He’s gained 5 pounds in the month since he’s seen the doctor and I’m sure most of that has been in the last week since he’s been off the Focalin. I don’t think he’s gained 5 pounds total in the last 2 years! Anyway, we decided that while it is good that he’s gaining weight and the hairpulling has almost totally stopped (he started again a little last night) – that he will need to be on some sort of stimulant drug until the Strattera kicks in. So we are starting the Strattera tonight (10 mg.) and will start the new med – Vyvanse - in the morning. It supposedly has a slower release time than Focalin and he said that should help with the side effects and he’s starting my son on 15mg, which he said is half of the smallest usual dose. Then every 2 weeks I will stop the Vyvanse for a day or 2 and see if the Strattera is doing anything – once it is, we will stop the Vyvanse for good. Hopefully that will be the end of the stimulants for us.
