Trent had a horrible day | ADHD Information

You know the old style, big headphones.  Try cutting the wire off and sending them to school with him for him to put on his desk and use when the noise gets overwhelming.  Maybe send in some extra pairs for the pther kids!  I bet there would be others using them!  I don't get why they would deny him usng headphones.  What was their reason?

I am new to this board & we are in the middle of a CHALLENGING week so I can relate!

Said it would be a distraction because it would bring attention to him and the other kids would be distracted from working. Ummmm hello my son is distracted now.

i'm taking his papers in the school this morning from yesterday.

Yes he's adhd and he's been struggling in kindergarten. Long story short, he's had a really really rough year. He's had 2 surgeries this school year. He got a concussion a year ago that left him blinded for about 15 minutes.  His cousin who was 5 mo younger then him passed away last june and they were pretty close. I noticed in Sept at the dr that he couldn't see so took him to the eye dr and found out he needed glasses +3.00 -2.25 @180.  He had to relearn alot of things. Alphabet, numbers, writing etc. That's just a few of the big things he's been through in the last 10 months.

how about ear plugs. They are foam and he could put them in. No one would even know. Obviously he couldnt have them in for instruction, but maybe for test taking....etc., etc. You could practice how to put them in at home so the teacher wouldnt need to help.

Yeah I forgot about that.

I went in to talk to his teacher she wasn't there. So I spoke to the teachers aide that helps trent 3 days a week. she said his teacher should be back tomorrow. i said well i hope, because its bad. and explained to her about his papers and told her that he said it was very crazy and loud in the classroom yesterday. she said yeah it was. if i'm not in the room the kids get way out of control.

i forgot to add his sub is about 70 yrs old and the teachers aide said she doesn't use the microphone and she talks very soft.

so my son has had a pointless week at school, would have been better off keeping him at home and teaching him all week. :(

(hugs). That's all I can offer you.  Keep advocating for your son.thanks bebop. i just worry, we are on a deadline trying to get him back on track. and this isn't helping matters. especially when he is trying so hard to accomplish what he needs to. and he wants to learn, but he can't with all of the chaos in that classroom.

I love the ear plug idea. I think I may even use this for my son while in the car, He doesn't like everyone talking or his little sister singing.

I can't see why they wouldn't let him use the earplugs. I think that it a great idea, and would be far less distracting for everyone.

Good Luck.

It is great that u want to fight for your son. Don't give in there is no reason why they can't let him use headphones. If u don't mind can u update me on ur sons situation. If he is adhd there r laws that insure his right to a fair and productive learning ienvironmet. Please keep me posted

well actualy last week or so. His teacher has been out for over a week, her husband is in really bad shape. So they have had a sub in Trents class. It shows. Today he came home and all of his paper she did in class were scribbled all over, and his handwriting you couldn't evn read it.  We asked him if his class was noisy today and he said it was VERY VERY LOUD AND HE COULDN'T THINK

So I'm off to the school tomorrow to discuss this issue with his teacher if she's back and the principal. This can't continue. He has severa things he has to FOCUS on in order to be allowed to go to first grade and he can't do that if the class is out of control.

This really upsets me considering they all know that he can't handle noise.

They turned down my question of giving him headphones, so I'm going to have to ask them to allow him to go to another room or something then, because this can't continue.

Any suggestions on what I can ask for?
