Research says that 80% of ADHD is inheritable  and 20% is from other causes.

Personal experience-I came from a family where all of the three children were ADHD. My older brother was inattentive, I was inattenative and hyper, my younger brother won the jackpot with all three (inattentive, hyper and impulsive). You know the type--ADHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHD.

Of my two children--only my son was affected. He is like my little brother, a jackpot winner. Life has been exciting. He has survived to make 12, but there are days when I wonder if he will live to make 13.

It sure can all three of mine have it, they are all a little different though. My son is active the girls are inattentive, one is more anxious than the other and things bother her more two are very shy while the other has come out of that. They are all a little different.

My nine year old is inattentive with no behavior problems, and my five year old "won the Jackpot" too. He is ADHD impulsive, OCD and ODD. Your right, life is never boring.

Adhd has a genetic component.  Yes, it can and does run in families. My 10 year old son was officially diagnosed with ADHD 2 years ago,
however, we knew from the time he was 4 something was different about
him. Anyways, our 7 year old son shows some of the same ADHD traits,
along with some conduct disorder characteristics. We've just started taking
him to a psychologist. Has anybody read if families with a child who has
ADHD have an increased chance of having another child with it?
