when strangers give you "that" look for | ADHD Information

My DH just attened a seminar given by Anne Ford (great grand daughter of Henry Ford of Ford Motor Compnay).  The senimar was about her new books "On their own" dealing with adult children with ADHD and Learning Disabilities.  She also wrote a book called "Laughing with Allergra (her 36 year old daughter with severe LD)".

In her talk, she said folks with kids with ADHD and LD have a distinct disadvantage.  Children with that have a handicap can be spotted in any situation.  But a child that has ADHD or LDs looks as normal as you and I.  But still have as many problems.  But since you can't "see" their problems, scoietity doesnt' think they exsit "can't see it, it doesn't exsit".

I think the cards would be a great item.  I may have to print some up for my DH and I to carry.  Sure would help alot.

I love the idea of these cards. We are all too familiar with these stares.Let's go one step further and really support moms who are struggling with kids... We could maybe change our society and make it a friendlier place for kids.  Most of you know, I adopted my two youngest from Russia.  They had a whole different idea about kids.  When I was struggling at the airport because my new son kept trying to run away, a man took his had and talked to him and gave him a candy while I checked in.  While I waited in line at a grocery people waved me to the front for the line because I had a child!!!  It was amazing!  What is with us?  Moms struggle and even when we offer help they refuse the help.
I was in the airport with my son then 11 months on my back in a backpack.  I was told to take him off my back to go through security.  I turned around and told the security guy to lift him off.  He said he was not allowed!!!  I was just stuck!  I couldn't get him off with out a table or something.  I asked to use the belt or some way and the guy just shrugged!  The people behind me were starting to riot!  This was pre Sept 11th.  Finally a kind lady lifted my son off my back and helped me through.
Since then I always offer help.... I will hold her had while you pay, or offer some toy from my bag to distract the child while mom collects herself.
Lets make a plan to be the one to shut up the judgemental lady in line at the pharmacy with kind support...

...your child's behaviors...

Neat little cards to carry with you as parent, for moments when things get out of control, and strangers give you "that look" like you're a bad parent ... if anyone wants the direct link for these cards to order up for yourself, just PM me.
