I feel like our appt went really well. I gave the ped my list of concerns and his attitude changed immediately. I don't think they had taken my concerns seriously before. Jake was his normal talky, running around at 100mph self during the whole visit. The ped is going to set up a psych eval for us in early May and we will return right after his brithday to start meds. I am still unsure of why we have to wait until he is 4 for that. I figure that I have survived this long one more month will be okay.
Thanks for all the advice. I am sure that you will hear from me lots more in the coming months.
You have to wait until he is older because none of the meds are approved for kids under 6, BUT alot of 4yo's do take meds.
It's great that you are seeing a Psychologist, but I would definetely look into a Psychiatrist for meds, since he is so young.
Edbson is right, the FDA has not approved a lot of meds for children under six, but there are a few choices for us. Ritalin and Dexedrine are a few. Good luck until the birthday. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Take deep breaths and ask for help when you need it.
Can you ask the ped. to go ahead and set the psych. eval up. IMO I would let the psych. and not the ped. monitor meds. The psych. may go ahead and medicate.
Good luck
