so my dd is on Adderall XR and has been for several months now. (switched from focalin) and its been going well.
She ended up with a urinary tract infection and the dr gave her bactrin (because she's allergic to the penecillin family) and since the day she started the antibiotics, its like her ADHD medicine isn't working.
Yesterday, she was sent to the principal's office TWICE!!!
I tried doing a search for interactions, but didn't really come up with anything.
Does anyone else have any first hand experience about antibiotics cancelling out the effectiveness of the ADHD drugs?
When my ds takes an antibiotic he gets really really hyper and CANNOT focus. I noticed it before he took meds for ADHD. He has not been on an antibiotic since starting adderall so I don't know what would happen now. The anitbiotic was pink and his pedi thought it might be the red dye in the medication that made him hyper. He is inattentive adhd w/o the hyperactivity but boy that amoxicillian hyped him up. Another thing, I have to be really careful with both of my kids of what they take w/ their adderall. Are you giving it at the same time? If so you could try to separate them. Acidic things can cause the adderall not to be absorbed as well. Maybe the antibiotic is making her stomach produce a lot of acid.............
