That would be fun! We will have to attempt to find time for sure
Alison is 11 yrs. old and ADD, for that matter so am I. It is a bit of a struggle for us sometimes ... hehehe. Two peas in a pod don't always get along. We are both learning to deal with each other. I am very lucky - Alison is quite mild and managable compared to other children. The meds work well for her, very few side effects either.
my dd just turned 11 over this past weekend...we 3 should try and meet!

I am excited to connect with both of you! I am sure the girl's will connect, the boys will connect and so will the mom's.
Alisonsmom feel free to pm your contact info so we can try to meet. You never know it could be a breath of fresh air for everyone.
It sounds like it might be time for a med increase. Adderall XR 5mg is really a tiny dose. I think the starting dose for XR is 10mg. They usually start at 5 for a week and then increase to 10 just to avoid side effects. Talk to his dr. It sounds like his symptoms are reapperaing across the board and not being totally controlled. Since adderall has worked well for him for a while hopefully just a timy bump up would do the trick............Good Luck! Thanks JO!
You are right. His symptoms are reappearing across the board. Though they were never totally gone to begin with. Keeping the dose low made everyone's lives managable but did not overdo it. Back in '06 we increased the Adderall XR to 10mg. We increased because he was having so many issues in school. He developed tics almost right away. When the Dr. said take him back down to 5mg and don't tell the school, that's what I did and the tics eventually went away. We haven't had the really big & long lasting issues until now.
Since you have a 10 yr old have you had to increase the meds? If so, what side-effects have you seen? Do your children take any supplements?
We used to be a part of a "play group" which was a support group that met twice a wk and the parents would meet with a counselor in one room and the kids would "play" in another. His anger issues got a lot better. The kids counselor really helped with the social skills.
Does anyone know of such groups here in MN?
i'm in MN as well...on the west side of the twin cities...where are you?

Hey Shelley,
I am in the western suburbs as well! PM me and maybe we can swap notes over coffee.
Hello everyone! I has been just about two yrs since my last post. We were moving from NJ to MN and received great feedback from so many people.
Well...we have moved and are settled and there is good news and there is not so good news. I guess I will start with the good news. Since moving, my 8 yr old ADHD son has had such a turn around! He was invited into the gift & talented program and participates in most sports and the church choir. He is sooo much happier. The change in environment is much more suportive in the school b/c the know ADHD kids and GT( gift & talented) kids need a unique kind of social/emotional & educational support . He has matured a lot emotionally.
Now for the not so good news...Recently some of the old behaviors have been coming back. He is hitting again and not managing his anger very well. The inattention shows more and there are sleep issues. He talks back to his one teacher (the other teacher he respects). But, there is lack of respect for authority. He thinks he can dictate how to do things. He is very smart but I try to keep him humble. I have also noticed his handwriting has gotten a lot sloppier. He is very distracting even to me while I am driving. Generally, his is giving into the negative impulses. I am back to dreading the daily school report. Which makes things really tense at home. Some of the stuff he does he would never even think of doing around me so how much is within his control? Oh, he has some quasi-friends...you know the ones I set the play dates with. But, he does not reach out to have close friends. He is friendly to just about everyone but does not have a best friend or anything close to it.
I am fearful of increasing his meds because he developed tics the last time we did so. He is on Adderall XR 5 mg. But, I don't know what else to do. If I increase the meds what medical tests should I have done? Check his heart and liver?
Also, he is on supplements with Omegas, and DMAE Vitamin B etc. They are Buried Treasure Added Attention, Coromega Omega 3, and Nature's Plus Animal Parade Mutli-Vitamin.
I wish there was a chart to tell me how much of each of the vitamins and nutrients to give b/c I'd prefer to start there. But, I will increase the meds if need be. Has anyone had to make changes due to a growth spurt or the meds just stopped working?
Sorry for the long post! I guess it's just been a long time.
Ooooo! I'm in MN too! I live in the southeast suburbs but work in southwest not far from the MOA.Well Hey Alsonsmom!
I work 5 minutes away from MOA! We can connect as well. This is exciting! How old is Alison and what is her Dx? I am sure at some point (always on the go, you know) I will read some of your posts. I'd love to chat!
To all those that are viewing this post that can relate to the growth spurts and the reappearing of symptoms please share. Also, for those of you that decided to increase meds or add supplements again...please share. I would love to hear what is working or just know that I am not the only one who is apprehensive about this period in my guys life.
I do have to say...I was able to exhale today...good report from the school!
