Nicotine? | ADHD Information

The problem with nicotine is that ,like caffiene, one needs more and more[addictive] to get the same results.  I, personally, don't think that it's worth it.  And for the record, I self medicated with cigarette for almost 40 yrs before quitting and using a tricyclic. It sure does get interesting...
You mention there has been much evidence to suggest... Where did you find this, I'd love to read up on it.
I'm undiagnosed AD/HD inattentive, about twice your age, been a smoker most of my life(unlike you) and I  can say nicotine does help me focus, unfortunately it also is probably going to kill me.
Nicotine is so addictive though, I wonder if it would ever be considered, although by itself I understand it's harmless, it's the other chemicals you get while smoking that hurt you.
keep me posted on info.

I'm a 25y/o university student and have suffered from inattentive-add since I was a child.  I struggled through school by spending at least twice as much time on any given task than even the most average students.  I was diagnosed with and treated for depression since I was 17, and this was largely ineffective.  When I was 21 I was diagnosed with Adult-add and treated with Dexedrine first for 1.5 years, and since it disturbed my sleep too much I switched to Concerta, which I found somewhat more tolerable in tandem with Strattera.  Both medications have been only marginally effective at best...

Here's where it gets interesting.  I was determined to find something that actually works and allows me to function as I believe a normal person might.  I titrated off my other meds and began applying a 14 mg nicotine patch every morning.  Having never been a smoker, I didn't know what to expect, but since there has been much evidence to suggest that nicotine can effectively treat add in smokers and non-smokers, I figured I should give it a shot.

I started about four months ago, and since then my whole world has changed for the better.  I can focus on reading or errands for hours on end, my sleep has improved, my volition is far better than I can ever remember, and my life-long depression has gone into remission.

I would never advocate this to anyone against their doctor's advice and never for children because of the inherent risks involved, but if nothing else works then it may be worth considering.

I didn't see any other posts of this nature in the serch results, so if anyone else has had a similar or differing experience I would love to hear from you!
