Strattera - Metadate ER thoughts?? | ADHD Information

Well for today   !!! A double!

LOVED the school program we looked at and she did GREAT!!! Not overwhelmed. Sat for over an hour while we (myself and our advocate) spoke to the director about their program. WOW! I was so proud of her. She says the new med (the methylin) is doing nothing, BUT that's because she is not having any side effects. She was terrific! Probably too good to be true, but for today I am thrilled we gaev another stimulant a shot..................I think with the Strattera and being able to use only 10 for now anyway, is just right for her.

I hope I didnt just jinx her, but it was a positive day.

Congratulations Diane!  What a well deserved success.  I hope it continues.

MetadateER( Methylin ER) is Methylphenidate, so the same thing as Concerta, Ritalin etc....It's a "mid acting" med, so an 8 hour med. Look for the same side effects as any other Methylphenidate med. I do know someone whose 8 yo uses it with Strat, and it is working well. edbson39566.5581134259

thanks. It's funny she doesnt react the same on all methylphedinates. She did pretty good on Daytrana, but hated the patch and I hated the 2 hour "kick in", she did ok on Ritalin LA, but was AWFUL on Concerta, so it really makes a difference for her. 8 hours is perfect as she has the Strattera boosting her. Thanks.

btw they gave us the methylin (generic) which is fine

Diane,

We are struggling with this same issue.  ds is on 50 mg Strattera, split dose.  We tried adding 10 mg Daytrana and it completely killed ds's appetite- so much that his math teacher called to tell me he couldn't concentrate at all- he was too hungery!  This was very disappointing to us as we have occasionally given him 5 mg of short acting ritalin for homework or special activities and we thought it helped.  I was so hoping a combo would get us to a place we have never been able to get to with a single med.  ds's biggest problem is inattention.  He has been on Concerta up to 54 mg in the past and we have always struggled with appetite, but it seems like the combo caused more problems with appetite than we have ever had.  I was surprised.

We have a doctor's appointment next week and I'm not sure what to do.  Has anyone else used combos with success?

We see NO appetite issues with the Strattera, that is our biggest issue too. Well that and tics. So I'll let you know how she does on the Methylin. Daytrana killed her appetite too, which is too bad I kind of like how "smooth" the daytrana was, but she hated the patch and wouldnt let us add it back to the Strattera (obviously I could've forced her, but whats the point). So we're trying the Methylin starting today along with the 60 of Strattera.

Good luck Diane.  I'll be very interested to see how it goes.  I was just surprised that such a low dose of Daytrana caused such major appetite problems for us- the same as the higher amount of Concerta.  We had switched to Daytrana because his doctor felt it  usually gave less appetite suppression than Concerta and I just assumed it was because of the combo with the Strattera.  We were hoping for the benefits to be better with a combo- but maybe it increases the side affects too.

I liked how smooth Daytrana was too.  Trouble is when it's smooth, ds doesn't notice it's working even when I see improvement so it is hard to convince him to take it!

She took Daytrana alone, and I did think the other side effects we see on stims were not as prevelant (tics, nervousness), but 10mg she ate nothing!

Yesterday she ate great she said even at lunch on both Strattera and Methylin. She didnt seem "ticcy". I didnt really see her medicated as she was at school. today we are interviewing at a potential new school for her so she'll be with me all day..............I'll get a better feel how it works, bit all day and during a stressful situation. She's very excited and nervous about a new school, as are we!

Hi guys

We're adding 10 mg Metadate ER to my daughters current 60mg per day Strattera.

    Thoughts?

How long does Metadate ER last? Anyone used it with Strattera?

We love Strattera, but during high stress times it is NOT cutting it and we are having lots of those lately.
