ok..i've made a lot of posts here and i wish i could find a busier board to get some answers sooner!

i have no computer at home and have literally running back and 4th to library for answers!

here is what happened:  yesterday around 7 1/2 hours after taking adderall xr 5 mgs i got thee worst headache that lasted all evening dispite taking motrin for it.

today it has only been 5 1/2 hours since i took it and while this morning i felt giddy and goofy, now i feel so tense and edgy and i cannot sit still for long..no good benefits to speak of right now either.

earlier it felt like i was relaxed then that quick it all went away and now i feel totally yucky!

what is wrong with me?  am i just destined to NEVER find a med that works for me without giving it up due to side effects?

i hope someone can answer me later .i'm going home to vegge on the couch with my puppies and hide from myself and the world..

I started adderall XR last Tuesday. I take 2 10mg in morning. I havent really gotten any headaches to speak of yet, but I do have a decreased appetite and when I first take them I become really mellow. If you are drinking a lot of coffee or soda I would stop. I noticed last week that when i had soda throughout the day I had a headache. Try reading a book or something that requires focusing. IF you are like me you probably wait around for the medicine to kick in and think it's going to motivate you. For some reason that hasnt happend for me yet.

People get used to 5mg of Adderall extremely fast. it is a super low dose and it usually either doesn't help at all or needs to be upped in a week or two.

The headache is most likely from rebound since it happens after the meds wear off.

Check with your doctor, obviously, but it sounds like dehydration, too.  Water... drink ALOT of it while you're on XR.  I find that when you're on this drug, you need more water than most people.  Your body is working a little more now and requires more fluid to get in the body.  Water will definitely help with the headaches, dry mouth, etc.

I have been on Adderall 20mg for 20 days. I have noticed some improvements. I am able to focus on reading material, small details, and get things finished. I still have some hyperactivity, esp with my hands and feet when trying to sit still.
My question is this: How much should I expect? Should I be grateful for the improvement I have. Should I expect complete cessation of my other symptoms. What is reasonable. I will be following up with my physician in a week or so. Should I ask for a higher dose? Wait it out some more? I was on Strattera previously and had some bad side effects.

i tried strattera....RUN AWAY FAST! just my personal experience.  i turned into a zombie with sexual side affects which you can find out what they were by doing a good search :)  eek!

headaches on adderall xr in my experience are from dosage too low.  i'm a male, 34, 175 lbs, and i take 30 mg a day.

good luck,

bill

Adults do better on medications that are longer lasting, instead of the short-acting stimulants.  Most of us are depressed as hell and have accumlated a ton of co-morbid problems after having to live with untreated ADD for 20 years.  Stimulants work on ADD, but usually aggravate these "other" conditions.   You might try Zoloft, Prozac, or Effexor as a mood brightener/stablizer, and then add the adderall later.  Most of the adult ADD'ers  I know have had excellent results with this combo after stimulants alone have failed.

Don't give up.  You'll find the right combo.  Hang in there.

THANK YOU FOR THE HELP...I THINK I HAVE A LOW GRADE DEPRESSION  AND SOME ANXIETY STUFF AS WELL..SO MAYBE THE LEX WILL HELP WITH THAT TOO.

MafiaKiddo,

I was just prescribed 5mg XR.  My shrink was very reluctant to do it but I am up to 120mg of straterra with no improvement in any area of ADD.  So she seemed to swollowed hard and write the script.  The first few times I took Adderall, I noticed a slight improvement in focus and sociablity.  That was around a week ago.  based upon what you said, in the post above, I should be stepped up gradually over time and very soon after my initial 5mg dose.  My shrink only gave me a script for 30 days at 5mg. and she told me to continue on the straterra.  I don't think she's listening to me.  The straterra does nothing for me.  Am I rambling?

You might want to find a new doctor. Especially since it seems your doctor isn't helping at all. Plus if the straterra is offering absolutely no benefit to you then you shouldn't be taking it. Why is your doctor keeping you on a medication you don't want or need. I would definately talk to your doctor about getting off of the straterra at your next visit.

The script for 30 days is fine. Adderall is a controlled substance so your doctor can't write a prescription for more than one month at a time. I've been on Adderall for years and I either have to pick up a new prescription at my doctors office or get him to mail it to me every month.

It's not always a bad sign for your doctor to be careful in prescribing meds. Maybe she is going slowly and will up your dose at your next appointment. You can always call her in the meantime and tell her about your positive response and see if she will up it sooner. If she will you'll have to pick up another prescription to last you until your next visit. Of course if she isn't willing to work with you it probably best to move on.

Oh one more thought you might get a better response from the Adderall if you are off of the Straterra. Since it is not helping you anyway, I'd suggest stopping the straterra and using the time you have left until your next appointment to get that out of your system. Then next month you can start fresh with the higher dose of Adderall. You should propably call your doctor and tell her your stopping the straterra if you decide to do that.
