I see people say that children are overdiagnosed with ADHD quite a bit. I'm curious, but how are children diagnosed with ADHD if they truly don't have it? When my daughter was diagnosed, we saw a neuropsychologist and she went through some extensive testing, plus input from us and her teacher.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone has answer!
I think some children may be misdiagnosed by doctors who don't specializeSometimes kids that are just normally hyperactive and "wild" are considered ADHD hyperactive and medicated.
I would assume they were not diagnosed by a specialist. Unfortunately, the bad news gets out more than the good news. You always here about the kids misdiagnosed and overmedicated.
You never hear about the proper diagnosis and kids doing well on medication.
I think some kids are misdiagnosed, or taken to a ped for being a bit hyper and mistakenly put on meds. I know severla kids who take meds, and who DO NOT have ADHD( most likely bi polar, or something else), but were not diagnosed by a specialist, and really really should have been.
