"unwrapping the gift of add" | ADHD Information

I totally agree with addentist. Too much marketing surrounding ADHD in the way of unverified medication and herbal care! Relating to each other and learning from each other outside of Doctor visits is the best and most constructive way.

Does it bother anyone else that there seems to be this whole "industry" springing up around adult ADHD?  I think its great that our knowledge is expanding, and that there are more avenues for help BUT, some of this stuff is, frankly, very schlocky and suspect.  For example, I googles "unwrapping the gift of ADD" and pulled up a cheezy promotional video on youtube and an even cheezier website.

I know a lot of folks liked Hollowell's book, but even there he goes on and on about "Juice Plus" and how great it is.  Look up Juice plus...its a multilevel marketing scam.  Its also a pretty bogus supplement from a scientific point of view.

What we need is deep wisdom, not quick fixes.  We don't need gimmicks, fads, "secret" methods, or pseudo science.  I find all of this nonsense outrageous and disgusting.  For God's sake, Hollowell had one succesful book and now he's milking it for all its worth.

I guess I'm just expressing my frustration because I know firsthand what a difficult problem this is, and I honestly care about all my fellow ADHD'ers out there.

Please think critically and be highly suspicious of anyone who asks for a great deal of your money in order to help you.  The main factor in your improvement is your own belief in your intelligence and inner strength.  Not what some "guru" says.

Has anyone taken a look at this website, or listened to the webcasts associated with it?

I listened to a few of the lectures and found them pretty interesting.

I love Hallowell's strength-based approach, and believe it to be a paradigm shift in how we approach ADD. It is not a panacea though- my life with ADD is still very difficult, but with the strength-based approach there is hope....
