DD not following directions at school | ADHD Information

Share

First of all, has she been diagnosed with anything besides the expressive and receptive delays?

It's really hard but most 6year olds have some problems with directions and attention.  Is she just acting her age or is it because she just can't?

It is upsetting to get these notes from kid's teachers.  Notes don't always convey everything. If I were you, I'd make an apt. to talk with the teacher.

And remember, it's Kindergarten and kids in Kindergarten have short attention spans any way, so I wouldn't panick until you had more facts.

Aside from ADHD Jillian hasn't been diagnosed with anything other than her
expressive/receptive delays (which are gone, for the most part). I think she
understands the teacher perfectly, it's that she doesn't feel like doing what
she's told. (That's what we are dealing with at home anyway.) The kid wants
to do what she wants to do.

I'll make an appt with her teacher this week. Good idea.

Oh Boy - sounds like what I have - my kid is 14 but he does what he wants when he wants to (LOL).

I have found that speaking with his teachers is so helpful.  Most of them are so eager to help.  They know my son has ADHD and they do make accomodations - although is attitutude makes it tring sometime.

I got a note from dd's teacher today that Jillie is having a hard time
following/understanding directions. (This week, especially.) The
"understanding" part alarms me because she had speech (private) therapy
for a couple of years due to her expressive and receptive delays. She was
released a year ago because she had caught up. (DD is 6 and in
kindergarten.)

DD's been getting "green" lights on her behavior chart and meeting her
goals for keeping her hands to herself and taking her time. I guess we
need to add "following directions" to her chart. (I wrote to her teacher
that maybe we need to add this.)

I was distressed to get this note. I don't like it that my child is not
listening and following directions, and I plan to address this at home as
well.

Ugh. I just need to vent, I guess.
