I picked up the results from the autism screening yesterday. I had to search thhrough the report and buried on page 8 or 9 of a 17 page report was the one line I was looking for stating that he was not autistic. He is a normal 12 year old with some writing/ hand-eye coordination problems. These writing difficulties would qualify him for some accomendations such as the use of a laptop in school. We were aware of these problems and I had even correctly addressed the problem as the physical act of writing and not just bad handwriting.
On thing that surprised me was the level of depression and aniexty that he reported suffering from. I knew he was depressed but I was attributing s lot of that to puberty. We actually started treating the depression last fall (October) with Lamictal and it seems to be helping. Next step is to find him a counselor.
I am happy that your son got some good results.Reta, I think that is great news. I know your son will be fine having a mom like you. I also think the counselor idea is also a good one. Anything in particular that you can target in on or is it just puberty, as you mention? Is school going ok, friends, social, etc?
Keep us posted as to his progress.
Best wishes!!
Beth
Reta,
What great news. I know that you must feel relieved. Now that you know what you are dealing with, you can march foreward. Good luck!
