DaughterThank you so much! It's so frustrating! I may think about diffrent meds; she does not like Daytrana at all.
I have a 9 year old who was dx'd with ADHD almost two years ago. She uses Daytrana 15mg, which I put on her close to an hour before she wakes up. Mornings are terrible with her; she hates to get out of bed, plays around when she should be getting ready, messes with her sister non-stop, etc. She is given plenty of time to get ready and has a to-do chart with very easy instructions. Step by step, such as wake up when asked, get dressed, etc. It's a battle everyday. She's fine at school (for the most part), but evenings and weekends are the same as school mornings. I feel like I constantly have to ride her back for her to do the things she is supposed to do. Incentives were allowance based. Complete all the tasks on your chart (also had simple chores on there) without me having to remind you constantly. In the 6 months we were using this system I had to remind her daily to look at her chart (which was right on the counter) and complete her tasks. Taking things away does not bother her. Nor does time outs, etc... We've talked to her counselor about it and when she is in there she's an angel. He points the majority of the finger at us for not being consistent. We are, but nothing with her works. She also gets angry and irritated quickly. Little things set her off. We’ve tried other meds and some made her “zombiesh”, others even more irritated. Any suggestions on meds or what worked with your child in terms of behavior help? Thanks! Hi! Your dd sounds just like mine. Our mornings are just like your mornings! I have found that if dd has "too much" time to get ready (more than 30 minutes), then it is harder to get out of the house. That's all I know. (She is on Metadate CD 30 mgs, which has been a godsend.) The Daytrana takes 2 hours or so to actually start working, so you might try applying it earlier in the mornings. I was going to say what edbson said. It takes 2 hours. Our mronigns werent great using Daytrana either. The other thing I was going to suggest is one routine at a time. So say you want your morings to go smoother. Spend a LOT of time (and I mean months if needed) givign her one task at a time. So everyhting is done in the same order every day. For us, get up, shower, dress and make bed, then eat, dry hair and out the door. I babystepped every step for months, then slowly pulled away, like not actually going to her room to be sure she was out of bed, started just yelling from the stairs "are you up" she now comes to bathroom unprompted. I literally stood in the bathroom while she showered (for months) making sure she she focused on what she was doing and did each step. Now I dont have to go in there. So on and so on. Now that school's about to end, we have smooth mornings Now that we use Strattera it has gotten WAY better as it's a 24 hour med. So between that and the constant routine, we're getting somewhere. I would try different meds. I had the same problem now my daughter takes focalin XR and i give it to her 30 min before she wakes up. |
