rage in stimulant meds | ADHD Information

Hi there.  I am new to this forum.  My 10 yr old son has been diagnosed with ADHD for 1 1/2 yrs.  It took years for me to finally realize that he has it and it is in his best interest to treat it.  He is on Adderall 2.5 mg twice a day.  He started raging last year but having extremely bad raging cycles since the first of this year.  Raging as in he hits me, throws things in my face, throws things against the doors and walls.  I have removed the knives from the home - yes raging is very scary.  He has hit my daughter, our dog.  The rages happen at night and only at home.  Friends can't believe it when I tell them because does not do this around them.  I have taken him to a pdoc and she thinks it is a mood disorder (bipolar) because one rage lasted two hours.  He is now on Respiradal.  Been about a month and 1/2 on it.  Had mini rages since.  I am not convinced that he is bipolar.  That does not mean he is or isn't, I just have to do alot of research to realize it.  Too analytical..it is quite annoying :)

My question is...has any of you had experience with raging and stimulant meds?  Also, do any of you think that the stim meds cause rages this intense?

I am taking him off the Adderall and leaving him on the Respiradal this summer to see if he rages off the stim med.  I am wondering if it is all from that medicine.  Sure would be nice.

If he does have Bi Polar the Adderall will make it worse, Stimulants can exacerbate symptoms in uncontrollled BP. Risperdal may ot be the right med, or he may not  at be the right doseStraterra at the right dose for weight and ramped properly is an awesome med for moods, and aggression, it also helps with focus.adderall can cause agression, too.Thank you edbson for the response.   His pdoc says I can remove the Adderall this summer to see if continues to rage.  I have read that some don't respond well to stimulants so I am just hoping for that rather than bipolar.   What do you think about Strattera?
