For some reason I have not been getting the emails from the forum... oh well!
Jon is doing well. He is still quite fragile and changes knock him off course- he gets angry and irritated and his ODD comes out BIG time. Even having my car in the shop and having a rental has been a major challenge in getting him to stop trying to open and close every window, door, stuff his hand up the airconditioning vents, play with the radio, go from the back seat which folds down into the trunk while I am driving... I have become an expert in pit stops .
Anyway- I have been having major problems with the doctors here. Jon has been going to Miami and the round trip is all day.. I decided that he would see the pediatric neurologist here that he saw before. She won't see him because she says that she turned over his care to a psychiatrist here. This is the psychiatrist that misdiagnosed Jon and made him not only completely mentally unstable but also the meds damaged his liver. I told her that we will not go back to the psychiatrist and she wants a 'release of treatment' from the psychiatrist and doctors in Miami and all their notes and his medical records.
Jon wants to sue Vista where he was kept for two weeks because they also misdiagnosed him and gave him meds that caused him to go 'crazy' and also damage his liver. Even though the psychiatrist there ordered blood work she never looked at it and I had to bring it to her attention.
Jon is 8 1/2 years old and he told me they hurt him and made him 'not be anywhere' ie: not exist. He said he was afraid of the people they were mean and told him he should be in jail, that he would be back soon, and his head buzzed all the time and so he could hardly hear. I never mentioned suing- I am stressed out enough, how does an 8 y/o get this into his head? he also states that he will not go to Dr.X again because he sent him to the hospital in a police car. He still has such fears of Vista and Dr. X. I can't sue but he keeps on and on every day. I told his behavioral psychologist but I don't know what they discussed and it didn't stop the asking. Now he wants to see a lawyer because he read some road boards that had lawyer advertising "if you've been injured" etc.
what would you all do?
Hello,
I'm have been all these board for awhile, but I haven't read much about your son until this week. I will say reading about some of the treatment has really made my heart ache for your family. I am glad you are getting some help in Miami
Now, the suing thing. Very interesting thoughts for such a little guy! How do YOU feel about filing a lawsuit? I know it is something you have not mentioned to him, but could you see yourself doing it? I think whether you would/wouldn't factors in on what to tell your son about it. If you are not thinking of suing, explain to your son why. If it is something you can see yourself doing, explain to your son in a friendly 8 year old mind kind of way, how it may be possible in the future.
You may also want to mention to your son this is something we don't talk about in public, especially with doctors or hospitals etc... Can you imagine the thoughts going through their heads if they knew about a family's potential lawsuit against a medical provider?
Sorry I can't help more, just a few of my thoughts!

Are you referring to private messenger? If so, your mailbox might be full. You have to clear out your mail box as it only allows so many messages. If thats not what you mean, please explain what you mean by "not getting emails" Perhaps I can help. Any time your having a problem regarding the message board please feel free to send the administration a private message and we will try to resolve the problem.
About suing......if you are considering it first and foremost get a consultation with an attorney first to see if you do have a case. If you feel that the medical community was negligent and can prove that their negligence caused permanent damage to your son its worth exploring the idea. What I would do is speak to a negligence lawyer first and then go from there. There are lawyers that wil take the case if you have a case on a contingency meaning they only get paid if they win the case and in this way there is no out of pocket expense to you. Good luck and please keep us posted.
What medicine caused his liver damage? What was he diagnosed with in the first place?Jon was originally dx's ADHD when he was 4 1/2 y/o by the head of the ADHD clinic at Shands Hospital in Gainesville Florida. He has run the gamut of stimulants and eventually he metabolizes them so quickly that they lose effectiveness. We tried Vyvance which made him psychotic- trying to kill his brother and sister by throwing exacto knives at them. he then went to a psychiatrist who put him on strattera which not only did not work but also exacerbated his symptoms. His psychiatrist dx'd him bipolar and put him on depakote and risperadol which damaged his liver. We moved him from his 2nd stay at a psych hospital to a children's hospital in Miami where they took him off all meds, re-dx'd him ADHD and put him back on minimal doses of Focalin and risperadol. We will test his liver enzymes again in another month or so. Well, kids see lots of things on TV and since ours is one of the most litigous societies in the world, it's not unusual for little kids to talk about suing people, even each other. In daycare we heard it all the time: "my mom's gonna sue you!" when a child was told he couldn't push kids off the slide, or something like that. Maybe if you had him write a letter to the doctor he wants to sue and really lays out his grievances (whether or not you actually mail it) he might feel better and be able to get past it.
