Hi there, I want to know if you can just stop taking Strattera, or have to taper off. My son is currently on Vyvanse and Strattera both are high milligrams 70mg Vyvanse and Strattera 80mg. I switched meds to the Vyvanse then called the doctor and told him what I had done and my son was feeling great and said he felt so great he didn't care the side effects ie, biting nails and skin on fingers. (We have a terrible time on most of any meds he has tried. ) I recently recognize he feels like he has bugs in his hair that was why he stopped taking it awhile back. Anyway I took him off the Strattera and when the doctor responded to my call told me to add the Strattera back in with the Vyvanse. He only missed the Strattera 2 days. Since I have added the Strattera back in he is very agitated moody, hopeless, and told me today he was thinking of killing himself. I called the doctor on call and after a half hour of waiting I called back and told them never mind since the doctor hasn't called I will just handle this myself. (I think it can wait till Monday)
Question? Can you just stop Strattera at once? He is going to Chicago with his school this next weekend and hoping I can have him back to normal before he leaves. Any advice?
Thanks,
nonutkid
Thank you for responding. He is 130 lbs. He is 13 and is 5' 7" tall. We as a family set down and talked with him this morning and I hope it helped him understand some of ours and his feelings. I just gave him the Vyvanse this morning. He is currently outside mowing.
I just think that Strattera was working in a negative way. I had left a voice mail on his physcologist phone yesterday when things were really bad. We just can seem to find the right fit on any meds. He is also taking 1 mg of risperdal in the evening for calming him and helping him sleep. I used to give him a risperday in the morning and we have cut that out completely. I sure wish I had the answers, we have worked on this since he was in first grade, he is now in the 7th with the teen years he seems to be very emotional. (Which is probably normal behavior anyway)
Thank you for your response
