SCARED: Chest Pain Worse - What do I do? | ADHD Information

I'm not a doctor so I can't answer for one.  Adderall does increase heart rate. What you are describing sounds more like anxiety.   Yuo really do need to contact your doctor.

dose is based on sympotms not height and weight.

If it were me, I'd seek medical attention now, especially if you know you're heart rate is up. Thats two symptoms, increased heart rate and chest tightness.

BACKGROUND: I'm female, 23 yo, about 5'6", 140 lbs. and have been on 30mg of adderall XR for over a year.  I take it 7 days a week usually (sometimes only 6).  I was prescribed such a high dosage because I need to fully function for VERY long days.  My doctor said it was last about 12-14 hours.  I work 10-12 hrs days on average, sometimes more, sometimes less, AND i'm studying for the CPA exam whenever I can find a spare moment.

PROBLEM: Recently I've noticed my normal increased heart-rate (maybe called heart palpitations? i'm not sure) is getting worse and worse AND i'm starting to have chest pains/tightness (sometimes feels like heartburn) which are getting worse each day as well.  I would stop taking the medicine until I can see my doctor again but my last part of the CPA exam is in about 9 days so I need to focus more now than ever before.  I've been studying and taking parts of this test for over a year so I am finally so close to being done with it all.

QUESTIONS: I have 3 questions: (1) How serious are these side effects of increased heart-rate and chest pain/tightness?  (2) Is my dosage possibly too high for someone the height/weight of me? (I've always thought it was)  (3) Is it ok if I continue taking the medication for the next 9 days or do I need to seek medical treatment right away?

MyADHDScaresMe39588.3496180556I would make an appt with my Dr. asap, You can be thinking that it is normal or okay and it may not be. It is possible that you can have an undiagnosed heart condition that can be fatal. Just because you were fine in the past doesnt mean you are fine now. Even side effect free it is recommended that you be thoroughly checked and have an ekg at least every 6 months. The test may be important but your life is way more important. Worst case scenario it is anxiety, wont you be glad that you found out.

Actually, the Amer. Ped. report on ecgs[or ekgs, like most people call them]  recommends a base line ecg fwhen evealuating for adhd.  It is not manditory.  There is nothing about having twice yearly ecgs unless there is an underlying heart condition.
