My DS is almost 13 and has been on meds since he was 5 1/2. I have never taken him off of his meds - he needs them. We have had a tough year and I'm considering taking him off for the summer or a portion of it. I believe he has developed some anxiety issues. I don't think the meds work as well as they use to. I'd like to try some alternative/diet things this summer. I will put him back on the meds before school (unless I have a miracle with the alternative/diet route). I would just like to see who my DS is now without meds - don't know if that makes sense or not. He is much more self aware now and can tell me when he feels hyper or unable to focus. Any thoughts on this? Also, how long will he need to be off the Concerta before it is out of his system and he gets used to being without the meds. Hope I have made some sense here!
Thanks!
you know, I had to do this last summer. I didnt go no meds, but switched to a tricyclic antidepressant. We just needed to be off stims. It was GREAT. I would think it will take his body a couple of weeks to be used to how he feels no meds. The same as I'd think it takes when starting them. It's obviously out of his system in 12 hours, but he may be worse the first week or so. Good luck. I hope the break helps. It's good to see how they do without meds when you can.
