Thanks!! She's VERY scared. She won't go to sleep without the light on and often comes out of her room crying. I've tried to get her to talk about it but she won't. She tells me that all they are doing is screaming her name and they just keep getting louder but I wonder if she is telling me all of it. It has her pretty spooked.
I think I'm going to make her an appointment with the base psychologist. She's been so stable for the last 3 years that her regular doctors have just been taking care of her meds, there hasn't been a need for a psychologist in so long that I wonder if maybe she needs to go back into counseling. Moving to Japan was very hard on her, on all of us.
i WOULD REMOVE HER FROM THE MEDICATION IMMEDIATLY! AND CALL HER DOC, IF YOU HAVE NO DOC, I WOULD TALK TO THE HOSPITAL. THIS IS NOT COMMON AND CAN BE FIXED. BUT OFF THE MEDS THEY ARE TOXIC TO HER SYSTEM. IT IS WEIRD THAT AFTER TIME SOME OF THESE SIDE EFFECTS WILL POP UP AND I AM SURE THE CHANGE OF jAPAN IS NOT HELPING I AM SURE. I AM NOT AGAINST MEDS BY NO REASON, MY SON IS ON THEM, YOU JUST HAVE TO BE SO CAREFUL AND WATCH THEM SO CLOSELY.there are cases of auditory hallucinations as a side effect on stims, rare. It does seem strange that it came about after three years. Did she have a dose change? I would make an appointment with a docotr ASAP. Whether it's the meds or something else going on, she needs it addressed.
Welcome to the board!
I wouldn't think it would be the meds after all this time. She's been on this dose for over a year now. Could she just not have told me about it for all of this time?
Thank you for your input. I'm calling her doc first thing this morning.
I am new here and just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Jamie and my 9 year old daughter has ADHD. My husband is in the Navy and we are currently stationed in Japan. Our daughter's ADHD is pretty much under control. She's been on Concerta for the last 4 years with little to no side effects. She's a great kid that does fantastic in school and is learning to control herself when not on the medicine better all the time. She plays lots of sports, baseball especially, and is a great "team player".
The reason I am is here is because recently she has began complaining of "hearing voices". This concerns me a great deal. Has anyone else ever had this happen with their child and if so what did you do? What is it?
I know that they say that ADHD can have several accompanied disorders but we have been very lucky so far, she only has adjustment anxiety and a small tic that causes her to make a sort of grunting sound a lot (it is very minor and most people don't notice it until they are around her a lot).
Could the medicine be causing these "auditory hallucinations" or could it just be from the stress of moving to Japan or should I really worry? We just moved to Japan 3 months ago and I don't want to rush her off to the doctor if it is something that is just being caused by stress and can be dealt with at home. I don't want her on more meds if I can help it, I don't like giving her medicine unless it is absolutely necessary, like her ADHD meds. But I'm really starting to worry. She's not sleeping well and I have a heck of a time getting her to go to sleep, that's when she says they are worse.
Any suggestions?
Sorry to ramble!! Thanks to anyone that can help.
I would be concerned but wouldn't let her know. I'd find out more information about what she keeps hearing, are the voices repetitively telling her the same thing, how often, when etc. etc. Is she worried, scared?? Then keep your physician informed?
