Could this be a tic? | ADHD Information

My 9 year old son is on Vyvanse and seems to be tolerating it very well and I am pleased with the results so far but I've been noticing lately that he picks at his skin a lot.  He might find a small little bug bite or sore and pick at it until it gets bigger a looks worse.  I know bug bites can be itchy and all you want to do is scratch but the other night I had to put like 5 bandaids on him w/ neosporin on the soars to help get them healed up.  Has anyone noticed anything like this with their kids on ADHD med?  Thanks and have a great day.  VickieMy daughter did some skin picking on Concerta. This is different than a tic. A tic is an uncontrollable thing, skin picking is more of a compulsion. It is generally made worse with anxiety.

That makes sense and he is being treated for anxiety as well.  I'll talk with his doctor about that.  I guess that would really be like that I pick at my finger nails all the time as a nervous or anxious reaction so he does it to his skin.

Thanks

What does he take for anxiety, if you don't mind sharing..

Prozac

Will does this ALL the TIME.  He is eat up with marks on his sweet little face and arms..

I do believe, now, that it is related to anxiety..

Ok, thanks!

My son picks at his skin all the time. I have had the doctors notice but no onehas offered any solutions. I try to put neosporin on him at night to heal him up.

Tics can come in two forms-verbal or motor. They are involuntary. My daughter has motor tics. She can control them but it takes a toll on her (exhaustion and more severe tic-ing later on). She has learned what her triggers are and works on avoiding them. One her triggers in cold drinks, so she never drinks anything with ice. She also makes sure she get enough sleep and keeps her stress levels low.
