What is your child like? I feel sad! | ADHD Information

My son is 8 and I feel like nothing will ever change or get better. He has so many issues. He has PDD/NOS, Sensory Intergration Dysfuntion, OCD, VERY emotional, learning disabled. He is so moody and angry at times. He freaks out with loud nosies, ex...loud speakers, ballons popping, kids crying, etc.. he will throw, spit, hit andyell.  He is also so very implusive. He will just throw everything around.  He will bite a pencil, rip papers, can't play anything the "right" way with anything. This is just a few things right now because I don't know how much you all want to read. But, just wondering what your life is like with your child. He is on Zoloft, and just ending Respidal last night (did nothing for him) and we are not starting Metadate today (he is very angry today and says he has a headache)       He is in a autistc classroom with ABA and he still seems out of control. Just feel helpless. If anyone would like to chat please feel free. Thanks SO much for reading this.

I have a 6 year old who *was* very similar to how you describe your son except we don't have the learning disability issues to deal with as you do.  She was extremely aggressive and destructive.  It has taken us about 1 year to find just the right meds for her.  She is so different now.  I used to absolutely hate waking up in the morning because i knew I was going to have to deal with her.  I was on pins and needles all day wondering what I would have to deal with next.

She is now on Concerta during the day, and Seroquel and Guanfacine (Tenex) at night time. Since starting the Seroquel and Guanfacine I have noticed the most difference in her behavior, that she is not aggressive anymore (once in a while she is but NOTHING like she used to be).

I guess my point in telling you this, is that is DOES get better.  And sometimes it gets better, then it gets worse, and you have to try and find that balance with a new med adjustment or behavior therapy (which has worked very well for us).  It is very frustrating.  I always wondered when it would get "better" for us, and it has.  We still have our challenges though but that just goes without saying.

Is your son seeing a psychiatrist?
