John Rosemond’s View | ADHD Information

elizam:  I agree with you that shaming makes things worse.

Regarding "The article about grounding for bad grades:"   IMO, Mr. Rosemond's message is truly oversimplified.  I suppose it's easier to generalize than to truly take the time to research and objectively approach the source(s) for academic difficulties and failure.

I approached school the same for both my kids, i.e., school comes first, homework must be done in a reasonable time frame, and limited social activities on school nights; well, worked okay for child #1/DD (presently grown) but not so well for child #2/DS (ADHD, presently in high school), as far as getting homework done on time (if at all ) and staying focused - no matter how much we "reinforced the routine."  As you might guess, along the way, we discovered DS needed far more than just "strict guidelines at home" in order to survive in school.

Luvmykids0239602.5991666667Don't even get me started on John Rosemond!    People think very highly of him where I am from (not where I currently live) and when I started reading some of his stuff I came upon his views of ADHD - they upset me a great deal because all I could think of were the children that wouldn't get the help they needed because their parents bought in to all of his anti-ADHD beliefs.  I have friends that think he is great.  I do like some of his ideas that aren't related to ADHD but after I read his anti-ADHD stuff I just couldn't bring myself to read anything he wrote anymore.

Ugh, I suspected he doesn't "Believe in" aADHD and now I know I'm right.

According to his website (scroll down a ways for a free download), he is working on a book Exposing the Fiasco of ADHD and his column in the paper this week is about how the parents of a teen basically gorunded him from all pleasure activities and he produced good grades after that.

It doesn't seem that simple to me...when my ds' life is all about shaming and pusnishments, he gets very depressed and angry and doesn't do better; he does worse!

Luvmykids0239602.5985416667I despise him. I read some of his books in the beginnng. I was very open to anything, and read books on both sides of opinion. What I don't like is basically he offers no hope to families of children with ADHD. cali123439602.818912037[QUOTE=cali1234]

Woweeeee!

It's a glitch in the system but thanks for pointing it out.

John Rosemond is affiliated with the church of scientology whereas they lead the public to beleive that they dont beleive in pyschiatric disorders or medications for it. They hide behind their fake beliefs so that they can write books, articles, etc. that create controversy and therefore profit because controversy sparks the interest of the public and when that happens people buy books. These people are scam artists that dip into the wallets of vulnerable parents Luvmykids0239606.9492708333
