My sons doctor wants me to start giving him periactin instead of his clonidine at bedtime to help with sleep and weight gain. Has anyone used this and want experineces have you had? One side affect I read was it can have the reverse side affect and keep you awake. i got those for my son to help him gain weight or increase his appetite. for him his eating had a delayed reaction he would eat the next day after taking it, however for him it did'nt help sleep though, his sleep was better on melatonin. good luck.I was too young to know why exactly it was prescribed, but I do remember that my mum would give me and my little brother periactin when she wanted to take a break from it all. the sweet syrupy taste was yummy. we'd be pretty mellow soon after taking it. we'd also have the munchies. good times...joshs has always been severly underweight, never had a dr tell why he hated eating, even as a baby, he never drank a full bottle, or ate baby food, all he ate was enough to stay alive. so he has a new gi dr who prescribed generic periactin liquid. a couple days after taking it his appetite was never ending, first time in his life he ate well and alot too. but about 2 wks into taking it, his appetite has again went down, but i think he did gain a little. he still takes though, he atleast does'nt cry at dinnertime anymore. the gi dr said periactin is safe, its an antihistamine, it does help josh at bed alittle, however melatonin did better, but i'm scared to give him both. |
