Megace for children? | ADHD Information

Has anyone ever heard of giving Megace, an appetite stimulant, for children with ADHD?  My DD can't do without her meds, and her growth curve has took a dive. We have another child without ADHD who does NOT need to be seeing her sister get all the extra opportunities to get extra calories at night.

Last ngiht, I did manage to get her a Carnation Instant Brakfast and beread and butter while the other was in the bathtub, however, I know it is a matter of time before there are taunts of "I gt to ahve snacks and you don't." Luckily, the non-ADHDer likes fruit, so if I can continue to seperate the two for evening snack time, I might be able to manage.

We see the doc in 6 months to see if she is doing any better. I thought if Megace can/could be used for this I would ask about it if we are not getting results of above plan.

I have not heard of of Megace, but I am in a similar situation with my two kids.  DS (10, adhd) is not underweight, but he still needs encouragemnet and lots of opportunities to eat.  DD (7, no adhd) is on the heavy side of normal and will eat at every opportunity- the ped said she wasn't really concerned too much but recommended cutting out snacks and no second helpings.

What I've ended up doing is just telling DD that they are two different kids with different needs and that her brother would be getting snacks because his meds make him not so hungry, but that she doesn't need it because she eats just fine.  She will whine about it sometimes, but after almost two years she has pretty much gotten used to it.  There's also the fact that I know I'm doing the right thing for her health by telling her no to extra snacks.

DS gets sent to his room if he teases/taunts about the snacks, just like he does for teasing about other things.  It doesn't happen as much as I thought it would since it's become part of the routine.
