My friend used to be on Adderall XR for her depression. Currently she went and told the dr she needs to be back on it, but is telling me she only is asking to be back on it to lose weight b /c shes gained weight since being off and having a kid but was always skinny while on it. Is she right? Is she going to lose weight guaranteed? Will she be hurting herself if she truly aint depressed right now? TThanks
she'll lose weight probably - if she did before.  and it will help her impulse and focus and so on.  if she is an ADDer, has previously been properly dxed and just stopped for her pregnancy/breastfeeding - then it doesn't seem likely to be particularly problematic for her to go back on to her medication.

but if this is a sorta "hidden" question as to whether as a non-ADDer one can get a prescription of Adderall to go and lose some weight.  i would not advise doing it.  "normals" are more likely to have a neuro-typical stimulant reaction to adderall ie feeling fantastic at first and a superwoman, can do so much more, so much more energy and quicker thinking and losing weight and all so good etc. but can also end up with the same adverse effects after time of addiction/skin-picking/neurotics/mental collapse etc. etc. as they would with any other stimulant  like cocaine/speed etc. and that is not a nice place to be.  they may be medication but they are still strong psycho-somatic drugs at the end of the day.

No, I can't o on medications like that as I am a transplant patient. I was just concerned for he reasons to go back on Adderall because even thought she must have ADD or thy wouldn't of put her on it before, her reason is just because she wants to lose weight.

Thanks everyone for the info!

Yes I know, she was on it for add, my bad, she has depression, sorry. I wrote it wrong.

Point remains. She aint depressed now, but wants to be on it for the losing weight part and is telling the dr she is so she can be put back on it, and they put her back on it.

She probably could and did lose weight on it, it does suppress appetite.

Yes, most folks lose their appetite the first couple months on Adderall, which makes losing weight a cinch.  In fact, I read somewhere that Shire bought the rights for the drug from another manufacturer which marketed it under the name "Obitrol" which was prescribed for...you guessed it: weight loss!!  Funny thing--folks taking it to lose weight noted how it also gave them better focus and concentration.
