Safety of Ritalin vs. Adderall | ADHD Information
what brain cell damaging effects??? stick with the Adderall - if it feels right for you and if it's just his personal opinion - i don't suppose he has any scientific studies to back up that statement, does he?
if he "feels" ritalin is safer than adderall - i expect there is another doctor out there who also "feels" adderall is safer than ritalin. do what you want, of course and it is extremely important to feel sure that you have assessed all the health risks and have access to all relevant studies/health issues - but i wouldn't get scaremongered by someone's personal opinion.... try to find out as much as you can but in the meantime i would choose to stick with what was working for me rather than swap - until i had researched the validity of the statement more thoroughly then you could decided whether to change or not.
(not that i am on meds - so perhaps it is a moot point)
good luck with it.
chjones39614.1556365741I recently saw a ADD specialist, and by specialist I mean, not just a normal psychiatrist. This guy runs an Attention Disorder Institute. Anyway. I told him I had been taking Adderall for 5 years now as that it was working the best for me.
He told me he does not prescribe anything but non-stimulants and the Ritalin-based drugs (Concerta, Focalin, Ritalin LA, SR, etc.) and refuses to prescribe Adderall or Dexedrine because of there "brain cell damaging effects" and feels he can achieve the desired results for his patients with Ritalin and such.
I told him that when I took Ritalin, I had to take 80 - 100 mg / day to get the results I needed. But I could get better results from 40mg of Adderall XR. He felt that 100mg of Ritalin was safer for the body than 40mg of Adderall.
I'm not sure what to believe and wanted to get others opinions. Do I give up the efficiency of Adderall for safety and be less productive. Or do I deal with some lost brain cells and better results from my Adderall.
