Wow YMe!  I cannot believe you can blame all of that on 1 party.  I am not going to get into a political debate with you but I have to say that all parties have problems and have cut something.

How do you think we got such a surplus when Clinton was in office?  He cut the military's pay, benefits, and resources.  It was great for normal families however military families suffered immensly and still do.  The medical cuts he made are still affecting us.  At least the Bush administration has increased our pay and made the living conditions of our housing better (I have seen military housing that would be considered "the slums" back home).  We have to give up a lot as military families, things you would never even consider having to give up, and people just want to gripe about how much goes to the military.  That money that is going towards the war is keeping your family safe and able to go on boards like these to still voice your opinions.  Heck on our base we don't even have a psychologist, we have to wait for one to come every 6 months for about 1 month.

My husband has served in that war.  He was on a team that filled IED holes.  He lost friends over there, was shot at, and would still go back.  He felt that he made a difference for those people and for at home.  He says he went over there to make sure they never come over here.  He wants to insure the freedom of our daughter and everyone in our country (rather they support them or not).  That money that you are griping about them spending on that war is what is keeping our men and women alive.  I have a lot of friends over there and worry about them everyday.  My husband was over there and I kept waiting for that knock on my door.

I know it is hard back home, we live in Japan (and you want to talk about inflated prices!!  A watermellon is and 1 week of groceries is 0) but if you don't support our men and women in uniform it could be a lot worse.  Think of all the wars of past that have changed our country.  Do you think those were mistakes?  Would you have wanted us to wait for them to hit us at home?  OH WAIT!  THEY DID!  NEVER FORGET SEPTEMBER 11, 2001

So I will get off my soapbox now.  I just get very upset when people speak against our government.  We are military so we have to keep and impartial voice when it comes to parties but we still have a choice as do you.

The ped we were seeing just moved, the psch she recomended is the only one that treats kids with adhd within 50 miles and they are not taking new patients so I kind of know how you feel.  Our Chiro is getting me the name of a specialist in Portland Maine which is 6 hours away from us. UGH! Funding is cut from budgets by legislators.  Not drs.  When you have a state that is run by republicans, you get cuts in healthcare. (And education, and most things that parents care about.)  So, even if you disagree with democratic ideals, try to remove as many republicans from office as you can for your health, your children's health and your kids education's sake.  I live in a republican state (AZ) and work very hard to get rid of as many of them as I can.  Just one mom's viewpoint. Oh, and a follow up.  Especially since someone will tell me that Maine is not a republican state. (Everyone is dealing with budget cuts now.)  That brings me to the topic of being a nation that is united.  United in dealing with our bills, no matter which side makes the decisions. (Or who went along with those decisions.)  We are currently spending an ungodly amount of money waging war/occupying other countries militarily.  So, as long as we continue to spend money we don't have, we will see cuts in the budget for things needed at home.  I can't consolidate some of my college loans due to cuts in the budget.  Many other things I normally would be able to ask for assistance with have been cut.  It is going to continue as long as we spend money we do not have.  To think in only 8 yrs. we went from the biggest surplus to the biggest deficit this country has ever known is nauseating.

So, get off of your couches, and get behind the impeachment legislation that is currently being introduced (actually reintroduced) by Dennis Kucinich.  Also, know who is governing you.  Know how they vote on legislation that affects you.  www.congress.org I think is a site that you can see who is doing what.  Basically, it is as simple as this: if you are a bystander in a democracy, you have a great chance of losing it.  It is not guaranteed to continue as one just because others more brave than you or I died for it years ago.

We are being robbed. Period.
Insurance companies are what get me!

We have an individual plan and EVERY year our rates increase at least 20% - sometimes 25% - and our coverage doesn't improve.  In most cases, it's worse.   Most recently, they added co-pays - come one - I already PAY for the coverage myself, increased the maximum out of pocket on items after meeting your deductible from 00 to 00 and most recently the orthopedic group I use and my insurance company couldn't agree on a contract - so they are no longer a preferred provider plan.   I hate having to make health care decisions as dictated of my insurance company.  Those decisions should be left  up to my doctor and myself.
I know in Maine they are cutting everything.  Read a lot and try to make up the difference at home.  You wouldn't believe what a fight I had with the school to do simple things for my son.  It was a royal pain, but it worked out in the end (of course, today's the last day of school, so maybe I'm overly optimistic).

Before the bad news, let me say that I am so angry and disgusted that I just want to become an activist for ADHD kids and kids with other disorders here in Florida. I took Jon to yet another Psychiatrist today and she does not want to accept him as a patient because of his 'complicated' history plus his recent hospitalizations due to his misdiagnoses. That is probably the last doctor in this area that I can go to. So I have to go to Miami again on  Wednesday which means I leave at 10am and won't get home until 7pm. I am so furious.

OK- now for the bad news: I called the ADHD clinic at Shand's Hospital in Gainesville to ask them to send Jon's records to the psychiatrist here in Fort Myers. The PA that I have known there for years and who helped with Jon's treatment told me that the clinic there had lost their funding as of May 31st and they may have to close! She told me that most children's special services in Florida have lost their funding or are 'on the block' to be cut!! So what is a parent to do here? Who can we turn to? Idiot doctors who misdiagnose, misprescribe, don't even look at their lab work and act like they are doing you a favor?  What about schools and special education? There is just no money!!!! Lee County Schools cut 70 teacher positions for the coming year and they just finished three new schools this year and are building two more. This is crazy and I place the blame squarly on our legislators who would rather line their pockets than help their constituants!!

How about any other states? Does anyone know anything that affects our special needs children?
