I don't have much to share really. The meds are definitely not doing much for Jamie...I do see some very minor changes--a little more focus when he plays and paying more attention when he has to go to the bathroom (he'd been having some accidents). He saw his therapist today and she said Dr. Z (the psychiatrist) will probably keep him on the same med but up the dose when we go back next month. I almost wish it was sooner..he's wearing me out emotionally and physically...and his sister's attitude towards him doesn't help.

I wish I knew which direction to turn...a support group or something around here. Big sigh

I have good kids and I have been blessed, but right now I feel overburdened.  I'm in a new town (sort of) and don't have many friends, don't have a support system and there is no local chadd.  How do you all cope and where do you get help and support?

Hi- call the doctor and ask to change the medication or up the dosage NOW. If Dr. Z has already diagnosed your child and prescribed meds he needs to know if they are not working. You didn't tell us what the medication is: a med like strattera takes a while to kick in while a stimulant like adderall or focalin kicks in usually the first day.

As far as support- your local church might be a place to start if they have small group meetings. Or ask the therapist and/or Dr. Z for info on support groups or meetings. Put an ad in the local paper and start a support group.  If he has been in school get a list of the parents and call one or two for a play date at a park where the kids can run around and go nuts without destroying anything.

welcome to the forum and hope any of this helps. We have all been in your shoes and it is hard.

Hoosiermama,

I don't know if you've seen her around or where you live but Cali has a support group down in Franklin, IN.  I'm originally from there and got talking to her and it sounds like a great group if you are from around that area.  If not she has some great ideas on how to start one.

I am assuming you're from Indiana because of your screen name.
