Dr. Amen | ADHD Information
Has anyone gone to Dr. Amen for a SPECT scan? Any luck?My dd didn't see Dr. Amen, she saw Dr. Kohn in McHenry, IL and she had a SPECT scan just this past weekend. It really gave us a lot of insite and gave us somewhat a direction to go in, as far as treatment goes.
dd has ADHD, but also suffers from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder from my husband being killed in a car accident. Dr. Kohn was able to see the area of emotional trauma in her brain. I also learned that when her brain has been stimulated by activity, it is in a sense unable to work as well. Dr. Kohn did a fabulous job explaining every to me at my level and he was also really great with dd.
If I can answer any other questions I would be happy to.
For us this trip was worth every minute and every penny!
2podsmom, so sorry for your loss...but happy for you that you got answers. I was just inquiring about brain scans on a different post. IF you don't mind me asking-how much did it cost??? If you don't post it, I completely understand that. I'm just simply curious and will not be offended.
My take on Dr Amen is -- he does brain scans that identify blood flow in the brain. Based on this he classifies the types of ADHD and gives them special names. They appear to be ADHD solo, ADHD with anxiety, ADHD with depression, ADHD with bipolar, and so forth. He medicates but also tosses in alternative supplements as well. Meds are the core treatment. The scans allow him to identify the medication type faster. Still, in the end, I'm not sure what the point is. I've heard the scans cost k plus.
Our scan costs 50, plus the doctor appt and exam were extra. If there is anything else I can answer, let me know.
Hey, I appreciate that. I have just started to really look into this...so this is one of those major questions that you can't seem to find an answer to!
Thank you and I'll keep your name in mind, specifically, incase I come across any other questions.
Thanks again!!
We did go to the Amen clinic. It has been very interesting so far. They charge 00.00 and you go for two scans, history, and final eval. I'll let you know how it turns out. My insurance will pay 60-80%
