anyone use online pharmacies? | ADHD Information

Share

Hi everyone, I am new here and pretty excited about not feeling so alone in my ADHD.  My question is about online pharmacies.  I've taken ritalin for 11 years now.  It is expensive to pay my doctor a visit for 1/2 hour, plus the gas to drive to his office nearly 40 minutes away, just to have him write me a prescription.  I was researching getting off ritalin (due to the costs) when I came across these online pharmacies that say I can purchase ritalin online without a prescription.  Is this for real?  Is it legal?  Is it safe?  The meds have really helped me to change my life from being a loser to the dean's list in college, and now to focus on my work and life.  It would be great if I could continue taking it while eliminating the doctor and travel costs (and aggravation).  But I am terrified to actually order the stuff online.  I don't want to get in trouble or get sick.  Has anyone gotten their meds this way, or has anyone done this and had it be a complete disaster?

Thank you!  Susan

Ask your doctor if you can do a phone check up.  My Doctor is over an hour away.  We do the check up appointments over the phone.  I get my prescriptions filled by sending them an email and then they mail me my prescription.  It works out pretty well and saves me drive time and gas costs.

I would steer clear, there are a lot of fake drugs on the market now and you don't really know whats going in them if they aren't from a reputable source.

People generally don't care about the well being of the people they are selling to, even anti-cancer drugs are sold even though they are fake and can do no good. They may even cause great harm.

You pay your doctor for good reason, don't trust anyone selling on the internet in this day and age - its for the good of your health!

I am currently seeking a new care provider that is closer, and covered by my insurance.  The doc I've been seeing for years takes like 2 insurances, neither that I've ever heard of.  So that would help.

It says on this online pharm's website that the meds come right from Novartis.  I wonder if I can call the company directly and make sure?  Isn't it illegal to possess methylphenidate or methlyn without a script though?

Check with your insurance company, they may have a mail order feature. Talk to your doctor about getting a 3 month prescription and visiting him/her every 3 month for follow up.

My .02 as a nurse with adhd:  Online pharmacies come in several versions.  Some are in the US, require no script, and will ship some controlled drugs, but will never ship the biggies on schedule 2, including the potent stimulants.  they may ship schedule 4 weaker stimulants such as phentermine or schedule 3 such as benzphetamine.  You will find our usual ritalin type or adderall amphetamine type meds are more of a chore to get, including memberships, payment only by western union, and long waiting times.  so, if you require the big time adhd stims, you may be better off dealing with our US regulations dealing with schedule 2 stimulants.

that said, depending on local state interpretation of strict controls on schedule 2s, you may, depending on your doctor's regard, do as my florida doc does for regular, known well to him, stable and controlled patients; that is to pick up three separately written and dated 30 days apart scripts at one visit.

These changes resulted from pain management issues.  and did you know methamphetamine is approved for adhd?  amazing how left to our own devices we can really mess things up.....

My insurance company (Anthem) encourages patient thriftyness by getting 3 month med supplies.  I've gotten both Vyvanse and adderall this way--sometimes by mail or else just using the local pharmacy (same cost to me either way).  By mail, I had my doc send the script for three month supply to the online pharmacy that's associated with Anthem Insurance ( WellPoint RX is the name I think).

Dexedrine is sometimes used as a last ditch ADHD stimulant. AKA "bennies" in street parlance.

d-methamphetamine aka Dexoxyn is not the same compound and is sold for ADHD as a last line medication for ADHD. Because of the added compounds it can't be "cooked" or smoked. Crystal meth itself is not made from amphetamines at all. It's a common misperception.

As ADHD'ers we must educate the public who are prone to such inaccuracies.

If you're talking about crystal meth [methamphetamine] --it must be cooked from pseudoephedrine/ephedrine often found in cold/allergy medications. It's called "crystal meth" because of it's look and sensation not as a description of it's chemical compounds.

So blame non-drowsy cold medications.
