Summer Camp for ADHD Kids | ADHD Information

My son just returned from a 10 day adventure from 'sleep-away' camp.  I never thought he could be successful at an over-night camp.  You know, waiting for 'that' phone call to pick him up early for some misdeed, not fitting in, being different or rebelling from the constant consequences that usually follow.

Well, he made it through all 10 days and it was a tremendous growing experience.  The camp is call SOAR Camp and you can find it on line.  He completed the 'California Experience' trip traveling up the California coast with 13 other ADHD kids, and 6 adults.  He learned how to surf, canoe, rock climb and experience independence.  SOAR has many different Camps and all are for ADHD kids!

It's a bit expensive, but worth every penny.  Oh yea, my wife and I had 10 days alone without the daily problem solving and challenges related to raising a 13 year old ADHD adolecent.

Yes he did have the usual challenges, but the staff was trained and prepared for them. Rather than employing consequences or ineffective corrective behaviors they problem solved.  They dialogued, and made each situation into a learning experience.   What a big change from the usual camp experience.

We're renewed, he's renewed and best of all, he's had an successful experience away from home that he won't forget and we never thought possible.  We are already planning for next summer for his camp SOAR experience in North Carolina.
