Do you have a schedule for summer? | ADHD Information

I was just wondering if anyone keeps their kids on a fixed schedule during the summer, or do you just go with the flow?

No schedule, but there are a few things that I try to make sure my daughter does each day: Math practice (I have her spend a few minutes each day practicing math facts with an online game) and music practice. So if she is asking to call a friend or have a friend over, I try to make sure that she does those things first. So these things, along with the usual brushing teeth and taking medicines and eating meals and one chore, give a little structure to the day, but not too much. My daughter was in a 1/2 day camp for the month of June, so I'm feeling like she is really needing some free time now! We try not to get too far off the bedtime schedule.  Right now we are going with the flow and my son 10, does not do as well as when there is a structured schedule. He is refusing to go to camp or anywhere there are more than 10 people or so, that is his limit. I don't have much money so finding classes through Parks and Recreation is somewhat difficult because of the amount of people there. So here we are going with the flow which isn't really going anywhere. I got to work on this. we had vacation plans for some big camping trips that he loves, but they are now on hold due to other circumstances( my hubby needs a shoulder replacement and 1 of our campgrounds is burning down,Big Sur).I wish you luck on your summer activities.

we are doing both. Both my kids do better with structure, but especially the one with ADHD. She is doing a full time summer program through school (recreational) for three weeks and 2 weeks of sleep over camp. When she has "nothing" to do, she's kind of out of sorts................ideally we have a some of each................

I try to keep a schedule with my son.  The only thing is I ease back on his bed time because it's so light out he can't sleep anyway, and he's not so emotionally exhausted from school he doesn't need quite so much sleep. We're not keeping a schedule this year but it's the first time ever.  This is the first time ever that I haven't worked so I decided to make this summer the most laid back as possible.  However our dd is taking some Japanese classes this month so we have to go to be fairly early and get up at 8 but the rest of the day is "whatever".  Enjoy the relaxation and break from "schedules" while you can.
