Yeah, I think we had tried Prozac with bad results too. I'm going to try it again. We'll be able to tell. Thanks for your response!
My child's dr. wanted to put him on Zoloft b/c it's been around awhile and has a good proven track record. He said that Paxil is used in kids, but it isn't approved for 8 year olds, so dr. would rather start w/ Zoloft. He's been taking it only 5 days, 1/2 dose (12.5 mg). So far, we are seeing minimal change, if any, but it's too early to tell. He also takes a stimulant (Metadate CD), guanfacine AM only (will be phasing off that, though, once the anxiety is under control), and omega supplements. The dr wants to get my son off all meds to give his body a break, but I disagree. I think he can do without the Risperdal now, but definitely not the Concerta. He's on 54 mg, and has been for 3 years. In fact, I'm going to see how he does on 36 mg. Obviously, as little meds as possible. Since anxiety disorders run in my family I'm thinking about trying Paxil again. Anyone have any luck with this combo? I notice several have mentioned Zoloft for anxiety. Does anyone know how the two are different? Thanks in advance!!
My son couldn't live without concerta as he is so hyper. In fact we give him his meds before he wakes up so that he is always covered. So a break off meds wouldn't work for us.
Our son has been on zoloft for 6 years - we a few breaks to trial other meds. We always go back to zoloft as it seems to keep his anxiety managable. He has basically been on the same dose for many years and now even during puberty the dose hasn't changed.
Our son is 15 1/2. We had prozac with huge negatives - he became hyper paranoid and totally on edge with terrible aggression to the point he had a bat at my head. Not good!!! He is only on 25 mg a day but is also on advanza at night to make him sleepy! He has developed an involuntary movement in the past 6 months and had him off to a movement neurologist who thought that it was a type of epilepsy. His arm would even spasm during his sleep. After taking epilim for 1 week, the continuous movement disappeared. Recently he developed a neck twitch. We put him back on epilim for 1 week and it disappeared. We have since taken him off epilim and it has returned within a few days but not to the same extent. The epilim makes him feel sick and makes concentration difficult - something that he really doesn't need!!
So try the paxil again and see if the tic reappears. We like to prove our theory by testing it a few times. By keeping really detailed records, patterns emerge very quickly.
Really? How old is your son? Had he tried any of the other SSRI's? What mg is he on? We've tried Paxil before, and he's been an angel! BUT, I felt like he may have had a slight tic so I took him off. It really seemed to help him, that's why I'd like to try it again.
