We've been taking a break this summer from adhd and letting Trent be Trent minus the metadate cd. It's been great, there were a few times we did give it to him because we had something important going on, but otherwise for the most part he's been meds free this summer. I finally got him in to see a psychologist well for a screening and they are setting him up on a treatment plan to see him i believe once a week on tuesdays. Then they are also referring him to a psychiatrist locally that will treat him from now on for his adhd. (Thank Goodness Finally). He also had an appointment today with his G.I. dr and he may possibly have Hirschsprungs Disease. (encopresis) We are treating him for 3 months, and then see how it goes, if it continues he's going to consider doing a lower g.i. xray study on him. Then go from there, he definitely said he needs to see a psych at least once or twice to maybe help with the issues he is going through with his bowel movements.
Anyway, he did pass Kindergarten and is going on to first grade. He was so excited. I'm really nervous, wondering if it was the right thing to allow them to pass him. But at least this way he'll get the extra help that he needs. Now I have psychologist on my side to help with necessary steps needed to get him the things he needs at school etc. She told me not to hesitate to let her know if I have any problems dealing with the school in any way.
Great news all around. You are terrific for arranging all this for your family and your son. Hope you continue to have a great summer together!
