Metadate cd - Son is 9 on 20mg | ADHD Information

Hi. My dd is 6 and on Metadate cd, 30 mgs. Jillian weighs about 42 lbs.
She started taking it last year, 20 mgs. We increased a few months after
the initial dosage, and now she is fine. Yes, it does decrease her
appetite. She eats a normal breakfast, takes her pill, and barely eats
lunch. Late in the afternoon she is ravenous, so I Iet her eat whatever
(within reason) she wants. She eats a great dinner, with dessert. If you
are not seeing results, I would let his doctor know. An increase may be in
order. You have some time to get it right before school starts. I know
you want it to be right, and I would not hesitate if you don't think it's
working.

Just a word of caution, however. When Jillie first started on it, and after
the increase, she had stomach aches and headaches for a couple of
weeks. I felt terrible, but they went away, and now she is doing great.
Hang in there!       My son is 9 1/2 weighs 52 lbs and is on 20 mg in the am.  It does not seem to be working.  Can anyone tell me what their children are on regarding Metatdate cd and when they are taking it.  Did it decrease their appetite?  He is still bouncing off the walls and just a little change in his appetite.  He was on Daytrana and then he started acting a little odd so we changed.  He has been on it for 2 weeks now.  Should I wait a bit longer before asking for a higher dose and if so when and how much higher?  I don't want him to be a zombie but I want him to get ready for school soon and be on the correct dosage.  How long should I give it?  Thank you.

My son is 8 weighs around 48 pounds.  He started at 10 mgs at 6 years old.  He is now at 50 mgs.  It does decrease his appetite.  I feed him breakfast then the pill on weekdays before daycare or school.  Weekends I give it to him after an early lunch.  He will eat on the med but not much at a time.  So I offer food several different times during the day.  At increases he did get headaches and dizziness the first couple of days.  He also gets gets a headache every once in awhile but not often.  It is based on how fast your child is metabolizing the med so maybe he is metabolizing it really quickly.  My son has been at 50 mgs since last fall and I do not plan an increase unless school doesn't go to well.

My son is 8 and about 47 pounds. He started on 10mg and I saw nothing at all and we did increase to 20mg a few weeks ago and he seems calmer on it. He did have headaches at first but not anymore (thank goodness) maybe give it more time and try and increase it. I don't see a major difference in is eating though. I let hime eat whenever he wants. he is so thin!  :)

Good Luck

MY son is on concerta, been on it for the past 4 years. we tried others but this is the most successful for him. we have upped the dosage along the way. he actually leveled off after 4 months of increases for 3 years! he also takes guanfacine that helps with overstimulation.

you son may need an increase or the med is just no right for him.

My child has been taking Metadate CD for a year now.  He started it at 7-1/2 years old.  He takes 60 mg.  This medicine is not based on weight, but he just went over 60 lbs at 8-1/2 years old.  We climbed up the doses slowly.  For awhile, he was good at 50 mg, but we adjusted it in Oct.  He's been on 60 mg for 9 months now.

Like others, it decreases his appetite, but he makes up for the lost calories when the med. isn't in his system.  He eats breakfast before it kicks in, and he eats 2-3 dinners at night.  He'll eat some lunch, but not much.

Mom2ADHDboy39639.3510185185Mom2ADHDboy, thank you for clarifying the fact that response to stimulant medications are not based on or determined by weight. This is critical information Individual response and the metobolic rate of absorption determine the correct medication and dose. Straterra,  which is a Non stimulant medication is based on weight. This is very important information in terms of gauging your child's progress.
