Hello,
I am a 25 year old male who has been on Concerta on a consistent basis since November 2007. Even though I hate taking it because it makes me feel like that robot bender from the show Futurama, this medication has seemed to help calm down and control my emotional ups and downs (bit of bipolar and also taking 1 mg of risperdal at night). I take 27 mg twice daily and it seems to certainly me help focus, although as for my lifes organizational structure, I should get an award for being the most disorganized person on Earth. I know most people would normally suggest the basics such as a good nights sleep, plenty of exercise and the like, but in my case, I work and am finish a Bachelors degree so cannot get 8 hrs. per night. Taking all this into consideration, what should I do to make myself more goal oriented and organized taking into account all these factors.
Also, I failed to mention that I occasionally smoke marijuana. Surprisingly (no joke) this mellows me out (everyone knows that), and I also was told once by a 27 year old social worker that some people with add who smoke weed, it helps them Concentrate better (not in my case, thats for sure). Has anyone ever experienced this. Let me all know what yall think.
If you're having trouble with motivation, I'd cut out the pot. Trust me, it's not a moral issue. Pot lowers the already lowered functioning in the frontal lobes - it's the part of your brain that will keep you going on things that you might need a little push (or a big one!). The frontal lobes are often referred to as the executive function of the brain.
